According to a new report from Vulture, FOX is considering a new twist on the judges for American Idol next year. In a bid to boost dwindling ratings, serious consideration is being given to the possibility of having former contestants on the judges panel. Their sources say Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson have already been approached and Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken are also being considered.
I think this is a great idea. This show has gotten incredibly stale since the judges table has become a revolving door of overpaid celebrities who just want to boost or promote their careers. The meddling of the producers who seemed frantic this year to manipulate the results has become increasingly apparent and this could be the breath of fresh air we’re looking for. If the show can get back to its roots and become genuine again, I might actually start watching again.
If I can’t have Harry Connick Jr. (who seemed frustrated with the show’s b.s.) I would love a panel of contestants. I might prefer to see Jordin Sparks instead of Hudson, who seems to be everywhere on my TV lately. If she’s not warbling at me about Weight Watchers, she’s taking over Smash. David Archuleta probably wouldn’t be considered because he’s just too nice. While his criticism wouldn’t exactly be constructive, it would be hilarious to watch him attempt to be critical of someone with his smile and laugh. How would he have reacted to William Hung or any of the awful auditions? Think of the look on his face! Cutie pie.
Who would you like to see on the judges panel next season? Can American Idol be saved?
Hey PopCityLife, good ideas! Aww love to see David on Idol again, as guest mentor perhaps, or in giving tips on how to survive it, especially for the underage contestants.
I would love to see Melinda Doolittle there. Comments on her twitterfeed during the performances are spot on!
Oooo I’m loving both of these ideas.
And I think having David as a guest mentor is a great idea. That way he’d be able to join the new season when he gets home and it’ll throw him back into the spotlight.
Although, David Archuleta is filled with so much knowlege of singing and music, it wouldn’t be a good idea to be a judge BECAUSE WE WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO TAKE OUR EYES OFF OF HIM! He’s so darn gorgeous and we would only want to hear him sing!!!!!
Great idea to have former contestants be Judges. David Archuleta has a lot of knowledge about music & singing but I think he would have a difficult time critizing anyone because he is so nice. He would be fun to have on the show because he has grown into a very handsome young man and has a great personality!!
I would enjoy seeing well-loved former contestants be guest judges or mentors. I think Idol season 13 will down to the Top 7 when David Archuleta returns from his church mission in Chile. David never says anything bad to or about anyone but he also doesn’t lie so it would be interesting to see him judge 🙂 I’m sure he’d be very supportive. I can’t wait to see him do anything! We’ve been waiting almost 14 months for him, 10 months to go. BTW if anyone’s on twitter he’s DavidArchie but his manager tweets until David returns.
ha ha ha it would be funny if david will be one of the judge he’s funny without even trying so it would be hilarious and would drive ratings. I could imagine how his going to judge being so random that would be really a lot of fun. That would add to the show to be lively.
I think David Archuleta would be a huge asset to American Idol. Aside from improving AI’s ratings, I think he would be a much needed change to the judges panel. David is sincere, honest, and I think he would be critical when need be without being nasty. Remember it has been some time since we have seen him. He has grown into a young man with a head on his shoulders and an eye on his future. Music is his life, second only to his Family and the Lord.
I think David Archuleta would be a fabulous judge. While he is kind, he is also extremely knowledgable about how to sing and sell a story within song. I think he would surprise people, he is a very quick study. Oh, and so funny at times. The camera loves him and so would the audience. He would be the perfect mentor..smart, strong and kind.
David has been missed so much while he has been on his mission in Chile. He is a “diamond” in the “rough” music industry.
David is what you see….pure, real and honest. What a great example he would be to young singers and to young people. He is a parents dream role model. Something needs to happen in our music industry to celebrate GREAT singers like David Archuleta. For some very crazy reason….those people who can really sing are passed over for those who can be manipulated to fit a certain image. David is an outstanding person and artist who is so unique in our world. The hurting Music Industry needs to take a harder look and make some changes. The public needs to see and hear great voices and people like David Archuleta.
If David Archuleta accepted the position of judge, he would do the best possible job. He would know what is expected of him and would not take his duties lightly. He would give constructive comments to the contestants to help them to continue their career. In doing that, he would be what he is: kind, helpful, considerate. Of course, it would all be done in nice way. He would remember his experiences as a contestant and remember what was most helpful for him.
Honestly, it will be good to see David Archuleta as a judge.
