This episode of “The Mindy Project” inches a bit closer to the (inevitable?) will-they-or-won’t-they relationship between Mindy and Danny, and takes an interesting turn as to who bites first.
Mindy and Morgan encounter lawyer Cliff (Glenn Howerton), who’s on his way to a romantic date with Miss Universe runner-up. Morgan chastises a distracted Mindy for blowing the flirtation, believing that they’re meant to be together.
It’s Friday Night Date Night for everyone else but Mindy and Danny, who head to Danny’s apartment after work–Mindy’s invited herself over as an emergency house guest after having lost her purse, keys, and phone. Mindy wistfully complains about never finding anyone, but her silver lining is a new crush. The problem? To Danny, the description of Mindy’s crush sounds an awful lot like, well, him.
Speaking of Mindy’s lost phone: Peter and Morgan find Mindy’s phone in the obstetrics lounge and see that Cliff’s texted Mindy after his unsuccessful date. Morgan sees it as a sign and Peter sees it as a sexting intervention, so they begin engaging Cliff while pretending to be Mindy. The conversation takes a flirtatious turn when Peter whips out the winky face (“That’s like emoji porn!” Morgan exclaims). Peter pulls out the “no panties” salvo; Cliff impulsively takes this as a cue to come over. Peter and Morgan panic, having taken things too far, and so clearly need to head things off at the pass.
Back at Danny’s apartment building, he and Mindy run into the downstairs “crazy neighbor,” a former hookup, and Danny (still believing Mindy to be head over heels for him) allows Mindy’s alter ego Chloe Silverado to make up an elaborate story about their engagement and pending baby.
