The girls are busy planning an annual fashion show in town when they get an unexpected invitation to lunch from Alison’s mom. She’s back in town to run the fashion show as a tribute to Alison’s memory. She wants the girls to walk the runway in four of Alison’s dresses. Um. Creepy much?
This fashion show is plagued with unwanted tension all around. Spencer is trying not to strangle Mona who has taken over calling the shots and is instead settling into the waiting arms of Toby. All this talk about how the girls all have relationships is making me think things won’t be too pleasant for these couples much longer. Spencer is concerned when she catches her father screaming at Alison’s mom about Jason. What is he hiding? Did they have an affair?
Hanna is struggling with letting Caleb back into her life, Aria is (rightly so) keeping an eye on Jason’s ass, and Emily is confused at Samara not wanting to be exclusive. This paves the way for a Maya return in my opinion. Emily’s mom is missing her dad a ton so Emily pitches the idea of staying alone until Summer. Really Em? With a psycho killer stalking all of you? Yep. Sounds safe. After talking it over, Hanna’s mom offers to allow Emily to stay with them for the remainder of the school year. Two targets in one house? A has it made right now.
Aria and Jason are getting closer. Does Fitzy have anything to worry about? I’d say so, I mean, this guy is an underwear model and Fitz teaches English. Jason worries about what he told Aria at the funeral but she assures him that she won’t tell anyone. Does he have anything else to hide? What’s The Jason Thing? Aria goes to see him to go over pictures to use for the video tribute that will be played at the fashion show. She’s using the time together to question him and hopefully awaken some repressed memories about that day Ali disappeared. He catches on and isn’t a happy camper.
The fashion show arrives and the girls are on the catwalk in some questionable outfits. Perhaps only questionable to me because I’ve never understood fashion. But hey, check out the Tresemme product placement. Work that dry shampoo Aria. Spencer gives Noel the picture tribute and I can already see this won’t end well. Noel and/or A is so going to mess with that. And wouldn’t you know it, things don’t go smoothly. Once the tribute begins, Alison’s pictures are morphed to look demonic while words and a song loop to say “The Bitch is dead.” Yikes. A really isn’t subtle huh?
I was kind of hoping A would show the Ian video, if only to see Ryan Merriman on my screen. I’m so confused about Noel. Is he trying to make himself look creepy on purpose? I can’t remember him ever having a grudge against the girls unless you count knowing about Fitz and Aria. He gives Aria back the disc, creeps and says he wouldn’t want to get them in trouble. Aria loses it and tells him he should keep his handiwork. Jason comes along to bring some sexual tension in the room (Aria/Jason Jason/Noel I’m not picky) and snaps the disc in half and takes Aria home. How long before they’re dating? The scene fades out to show A buying some boots online. Um. Okay? I’m not sure what just went over my head but I haven’t a clue as to what that’s supposed to mean. Why does A need those boots? Who else has them?
Was anyone else noticing the creepy, overly dramatic Lost-esque music that was being played all episode? I kept waiting for the logo to flash. Also, Melissa and Ezra were both out of town in this episode. Just sayin.
Jason DiLaurentis has long been a mystery on Pretty Little Liars. Give him a new actor and a fabulous, flowing hairdo and you get Drew Van Acker. Drew warns fans of the show that Jason will be stirring things up this season, especially for you Ezria fans out there.
Check out what Drew says is in store for Jason this season on Pretty Little Liars:
Up until recently, Jason has been a big question mark. But he’s back in a big way this Tuesday — and he’s got his smoldering sights set on Aria (played by Lucy Hale).
“Aria brings out a side in him that fans haven’t seen yet,” Van Acker previews. “He finds something in her that he can relate to, so there’s definitely a connection between them.” Which means… what we think it means? “I’m definitely stirring things up for the Aria/Ezra situation,” the actor insists.
But before Ezria fans revolt, hear the man out: “Jason is not this monster that everyone makes him out to be. He’s changed his life. In the beginning, everyone thought he was bad, and while no one knows either way just yet, you will see him opening up.” To clarify, this means he’ll be opening up to all of the girls, says Van Acker, not just everyone’s formerly pink-haired fave.
In the meantime, Van Acker tells TVLine that PLL viewers can look forward to an unveiling of “what he’s been up to in his old house,” as well as finally pinning down what exactly went wrong between Jason and his kid sis. “As the episodes go on, you’ll see more and more of their brother/sister relationship [in flashbacks], and why things became so tainted.”

The girls are coming to terms with the shocking news that Ian killed himself and confessed to killing Alison. But did he? Emily is the only one with a brain in this entire episode and she knows this isn’t over. Spencer is just over all of the Nancy Drew-ness of their lives so starting with this episode, Emily is the new sleuth. And she kicks major butt at it. Anyone watching this show knows that Ian didn’t kill himself. I’m actually surprised when Garrett voluntarily tells Emily that Ian’s body has been dead for a week. This means that A was the one texting Melissa pretending to be Ian.
Okay. Hold the phone. Ian’s body has been dead a week? And yet the coroners can’t figure out how he originally died? Way too many episodes of Law and Order have shown me that autopsies are key. Especially when a murder is involved. Are the medical examiners just looking at the note and not even bothering? Let’s add these people to the list of dumbasses from Rosewood along with the police.
Poor Ian. Where’s his family? No one wants to give him a funeral and Spencer convinces her parents to throw him one. Hmm. Ian almost killed Spencer and her parents never believed her. Now it’s Spencer that wants justice for Ian and her parents want nothing to do with it? Fail. But it looks like all the parents of Rosewood are believing that murder confession Ian “left” behind. Emily runs into the guy that showed up with the ransom money last season and tells Garrett about it. Doh! I wish these girls knew he was up to no good. I wouldn’t really mind if Garrett “accidentally” got run over in the finale. It’s not long before Garrett pays him off before he can tell Emily anything else. He does let slip to Emily that the person who paid him to drop off the money was a woman and not Ian. I was reallllllllly hoping it would end up being Melissa but it looks like it was Jenna.
A person in a black hoody is caught trying to break in to Jason’s house. Jason catches them. Is it A? Maybe. But for now it’s Mike. Turns out Mike is the one who has been breaking into houses all over the neighborhood and it was Mike who hurt Aria at Spencer’s house. Sheesh. Aria barely got an explanation out of him. Why is he doing this? Is this just a red herring and we’re supposed to believe that Mike is just rebelling. B.S. I’ve been saying Mike was either working for or was A since episode 1.
At Ian’s funeral, Jason confesses to Aria how relieved he is about Ian. All this time Jason believed that he himself killed Alison. He blacked out that night and doesn’t remember a thing. He woke up with a note in his pocket saying “I know what you did.” Yikes. Is that an A note? What did he do? Once Emily realizes that the suicide note is just a mashup of all of A’s messages, they realize Ali’s killer is still out there. Who really killed Ali if it wasn’t Ian?
Spencer tries to find a knock off ring to buy Melissa to make her feel better but has no luck. She decides it’s time to confess to Melissa instead. Before she gets the chance, Melissa apologizes to her for choosing Ian over her. She just couldn’t believe that Ian was a murderer. Melissa then reveals that she has been lying to Spencer and has to tell her something. But of course she’s interrupted by a ringing phone. It’s Ian’s cell phone and it’s coming from inside Spencer’s bag. Melissa immediately morphs into the exorcist or something and assumes that Spencer has been pretending to be Ian this entire time. Grr! What was Melissa going to confess??
Emily gets one more message from A. It’s time for a night time graveyard scavenger hunt! Couldn’t they do this in the daytime? I mean seriously. They’re just looking for trouble now. The map takes them to Ali’s grave. It’s dark. It’s silent. And then BAM. Okay I admit when I heard Alison’s laughter a crazy part of me thought it was a ghost. But it’s a projection on the wall of the tape of Alison and Ian at the kissing rock the night she “died.” Same old same old..only wait. The tape doesn’t end where it usually does.
Alison moves her hand. She wasn’t dead.
Yep. Turns out that tape was just Ian and Ali doing the deed. Most of us speculated it might be. And since it is, can I just say that Ian is uh..fast? Alison and Ian get up and walk away all smiles. So then..what the hell? The night Ian tried to kill Spencer, didn’t he say he pushed Ali and she never got up? Only to be told by Spencer that Ali died of suffocation? He didn’t push her when he was doing her. Is this a continuity problem? And Mike left to go out right before the scavenger hunt. Just sayin.
