Read on for our interview with Ally Petitti below:
Can you talk a little about what initially inspired you to start Trying To Figure It Out and expand your audience with a podcast?
I started Trying To Figure It Out after going through one of the hardest years of my life mentally and physically. I wanted to create a space where I can share my stories and hopefully be relatable to people going through similar struggles. Trying To Figure It Out is a platform where I share my stories and my guests share their stories and we focus on a wide range of topics from mental health to friendships, relationships, family dynamics, sexuality, sex and so much more.
Mental health can affect so many aspects of one’s life. Can you talk a little about your inspiration to start this conversation and why it’s important for you to share this with your listeners?
I think my inspiration comes from how personal the subject matter is to me. I have been through a lot mentally and have learned that mental health treatment and recovery is not linear and not the same for everyone.
While we are lucky to live in a time where there are so many more mental health resources, there are still so many people struggling, feeling alone, unable to afford care, and feeling afraid to get the help they may need. I think sharing my stories has helped me but also helped others realize that it is OK to push the boundaries and open the door to conversations that haven’t always been so widely accepted in the past.
For someone thinking of listening, how would you describe your podcast and what your audience can expect from an episode?
I would say my podcast is a mental health podcast that focuses on subjects from divorce, friendships, relationships, trauma, sexuality and more. Something I have found really special about TTFIO is the ability to talk about really important and sometimes difficult subjects but also add a lot of positivity and even sometimes humor to make it not feel so dark all the time.
The conversational style of your podcast allows listeners to enjoy episodes featuring special guests that have included Jordyn Jones and cast members from the Netflix series The Ultimatum. What can you tease about what viewers can expect from future episodes that you may have planned?
I am so lucky to have had such amazing guests in my first few months hosting TTFIO. Because the holidays are around the corner right now, I am in full planning mode for the episodes coming after the new year. There are definitely some surprises in store, but I won’t be sharing that info just yet!
Are there any special guests that you would love to collaborate with on a future episode that you haven’t yet?
Honestly, because the podcast is so deeply personal, I am grateful for any guest who is willing to come on and share their stories. I have a few surprises in store though that I can’t wait to share in the coming months!
You have an extensive background in the arts with experience in the entertainment industry. Would you ever want to pursue other projects that allow you to utilize your background? Is there anything else that you’re working on?
I think I definitely would love to find a way to utilize my background in entertainment / the more corporate side of entertainment. I am kind of going with the flow right now and doing what feels most right and makes me the happiest. Right now, that is my top priority.
