Have you heard? Project Mc² season 3 is available to stream on Netflix TODAY! We spoke with new cast member Sarah Desjardins about playing team leader McKeyla McAlister’s older sister, plus her role on SyFy’s Van Helsing, her favorite movies, and more! Read on for our interview with Sarah Desjardins.
In Project Mc² season 2’s cliffhanger ending, McKeyla unexpectedly saw her sister Maddy at the headquarters of HAVOC, a.k.a. spy agency NOV8’s rival organization! What can you tell us about how your story line develops in season 3?
I know, how scandalous! This sets up the journey for this season. McKeyla must delve deeper to discover if her sister Maddy has in fact gone rogue. The first step the girls take is to try and lure Maddy back despite Maddy’s attempts to stop them. Will McKeyla be able to confront her sister? Has Maddy crossed over to the dark side? You’ll have to watch to find out!
Since its inception, Project Mc² has centered on McKeyla and her friends (played by Mika Abdalla, Ysa Penarejo, Victoria Vida, and Genneya Walton). Were you intimidated to join this established cast? Did the cast members make you feel welcome?
It’s always a little intimidating to join a cast that has worked together for a long time but I was instantly welcomed. It was such an empowering, supportive set. Compliments were always flying back and forth. I love those girls. I still do my best to keep in touch with them.
What drew you to the role of Maddy, and what are some of the traits you like most about her? Do you think you’d get along with her in real life?
What I like most about Maddy is how strong she is. She’s a spy, for crying out loud! She holds her own in front of all these baddies and it’s something I really admire about her. She’s much cooler than I am. If she decided to slum it with me, I’d definitely hang out with her!
We heard you love going to the movies! What are some of your all-time favorite films?
My all-time favorite is Short Term 12, starring Brie Larson. It’s a beautiful story and all the characters are real and grounded. A few more favorites include 500 Days of Summer, Her, Birdman and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I could go on forever. I couldn’t pick one if my life depended on it.
Speaking of favorites, Project Mc² is a Netflix original show. What shows do you most enjoy binge-watching on Netflix?
My favorite classics to binge-watch are Friends and Gilmore Girls. As far as newer shows go, I’m obsessed with Bloodline. I’ve also been rewatching Friday Night Lights and Parenthood.
October’s been a big month for you – Project Mc² season 3 debuted on Netflix, and you made your first appearance on SyFy’s Van Helsing! What can Van Helsing fans look forward to from your recurring role as Catherine? What other projects are coming up for you in the future?
Catherine has come in with a new group of refugees and once we discover there is a murderer in the midst of the survivors, we decide to take action. She is also very protective of Callie, the young girl in her group, and if anyone threatens her, Catherine may snap. We’ll have to see what happens. I just wrapped filming Drink, Slay, Love starring Cierra Ramirez and Gregg Sulkin which should be airing on Lifetime in 2017. I also guest-starred on Imaginary Mary, a new comedy for ABC airing mid-season. I’m rather busy, very fortunate and excited for what’s to come!
