Interview: Genneya Walton Talks Project Mc² & More – Exclusive
Genneya Walton stars in the Netflix original show Project Mc², but you may also recognize her from Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans and Disney Channel’s Jessie. We spoke with Genneya about her Project Mc² character Bryden Bandweth, her favorite shows to binge-watch, and what it’s like to have a doll of herself!
Read on for our interview with Genneya Walton.
For people who haven’t seen Project Mc² (or at least not yet!), can you describe the show and your character, Bryden Bandweth?
Genneya Walton: Project Mc² is about a group of girls recruited into NOV8, a secret spy organization. Each of them use their specialty in STEAM [science, technology, engineering, art and design, and math] to solve cases based in our hometown of Maywood Glen. With a mix of girl power and intelligence, we accomplish everything we put our minds to no matter how difficult. Bryden is a super spunky teen both in personality and fashion sense. She is the technology expert of the group and is up to date on all of the latest trends on social media. Bryden tends to speak very fast and ramble when she gets nervous – it’s kind of her thing!
Season 2 of Project Mc² premiered on Netflix earlier this summer. What has the fan reaction been like?
AMAZING. With everything in life, there are lovers and haters, but fortunately the new season has been flooded with lovely commentary that washes out any negativity. I’m so happy that both past fans and new fans like season 2 because we worked so hard on it. I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has watched it. The girls and I love you all so much and we hope to make you even happier come season 3!
Do you have any favorite Project Mc² season 2 scenes or episodes that stand out in your mind? What makes them special to you and why?
Episode 1 was my absolute favorite simply [because] it was our first episode back together. It was so fun getting to work with the girls again.
What’s your favorite thing about your character? Do you share any similarities with Bryden, and do you think you’d be friends with her in real life?
I love how she is unapologetically herself and I love her bright personality. Bryden and I are both very energetic and love social media. She is definitely an amped up version of myself. I wouldn’t be able to understand her acronyms, but I do think I’d be friends with Bryden in real life.
Bryden is a tech junkie and social media master who totally freaks out if she can’t connect to Wi-Fi. Is that something you have in common with her? What’s your favorite social media platform and why?
I don’t freak out like she does, but I do find [not having Wi-Fi] to be a slight inconvenience if I’m trying to get stuff done. My favorite social media platform is Snapchat because the filters are entertaining and I love watching people’s stories.
Project Mc² dolls are available to buy at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, and more! What’s it like to know there’s a doll out there that was modeled on you? Would you ever buy the Bryden doll, or would it creep you out?!
I used to play with dolls when I was younger, so it’s weird to think that there is one out there like me. I was actually sent some of the dolls and it isn’t as creepy as you would think. It’s more exciting than anything.
Project Mc² is a Netflix show. What are your favorite shows to binge-watch on Netflix?
Gossip Girl and American Horror Story!
And finally, congrats on Project Mc² getting renewed for a third season! We’re excited to see more of Bryden and the rest of the team!
Thank you so much for the support! I’m excited for you guys to see what else the girls and I get into.
We’d like to send a big thank you to Genneya Walton for talking with us! Don’t forget to follow her on Twitter and Instagram! The first two seasons of Project Mc² are available to stream on Netflix, with season 3 coming out later this year.
