Read on for our recap of Once Upon A Time 4×04: “The Apprentice” below:
Date Night
“I don’t pillage and plunder on the first date, just so you know.”
Wise words spoken from Emma after she asks Killian Jones AKA Captain Hook on a first date. And he’s wearing normal clothes! He’s looking good.
Wanting to impress his girl, Hook runs to Rumple to ask for a favor. Or rather, he blackmails him for his old hand back. Mr. Gold warns him that it will cause him to gain back some of his old personality. This means that he has a temper and does us all a favor by punching Will/The Knave of Hearts in the face.
Not wanting to ever harm Emma, Hook runs back to Rumple to have it removed. Not so fast. Now, it’s time for the tables to turn and a new deal to be made. He lied about the hand having side effects and forces Killian to help him trap an old man.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
It appears we’re delving into that story. We’ve got walking broomsticks and a sparkly hat and a Dark One that really wants this hat in both timelines. In flashback, Anna goes to see Rumple for information on her parents. He forces her to sign a contract that says in exchange for information, she’ll pour something in the Apprentice’s tea. She backs out at the last minute but passes the test anyway. The Dark One needed someone pure of heart to get to the hat. The Apprentice guarded his path.
Thanks to a mouse, Anna gets a hold of The Dark One’s dagger and gains control of him. She asks him to send her and the hat back home to Arendelle without being harmed. She may get her way now, but he’s not going to be happy about that later on. We learn that the hat steals magic, and Rumple has a new plan up his sleeve for his future.
And so does Henry. Sigh. He’s still here. He wants to help Regina have her happy ending by getting information out of Rumple. By the way, she was barely in the episode. That sucks. He goes to Mr. Gold with some sob story about how as his grandfather, he’s all he has left. Rumple then agrees to allow him to work at his store during the week…as his apprentice.
