Let me take you 300 years in the past on the Mississippi River where an abandoned boat floats ominously through the night. A few powdered wigs venture to explore only to find a set of coffins aboard. One of the brave souls dares to open one of the coffins and the corpse of Kol Mikaelson, youngest of the Original brothers, lies inside. But before any of the men could spare a second glance, a wisp of wind whispers by and Elijah Mikaelson, eldest Original, appears with a gracious introduction. He’s followed by Rebekah Mikaelson, a blonde beauty and the baby of the family, wiping her dainty fangs after having taken a bite out of one man’s life. Harmless and hospitable they may come across, their beast of a half-brother, Niklaus (informally known as Klaus) makes it evident what they truly are – vampires. The original vampires, created over a thousand years ago. And where are they, you might ask? The French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Season five of “The Vampire Diaries” premieres with a few new characters, a few new plot twists, and just the right amount of blood. This is a vampire show, after all!
The prelude of the episode gave glimpses into each character’s summer: Caroline spent the entire summer planning for college and pining over her long distance boyfriend Tyler (we miss you, Michael Trevino! Well…I do). Elena spent the summer kanoodling with Damon on probably every surface in the entire boarding house while dreaming about Stefan’s drowning misery. Is it a doppleganger thing? Speaking of dopplegangers, a now human Katherine was seen struggling through her summer and trying to survive. Girl needed a serious spa day. Just saying! Jeremy, meanwhile, channeled his inner Haley Joel Osment and stayed in touch with his ghost girlfriend. Poor Bonnie is stuck on the ‘other side’ with only Jeremy who can see her. But who would have guessed that Matt was the one who had the most adventurous summer? He spent his two months traveling the world and sharing a bed with a certain Original blonde bombshell and a super hot brunette kleptomaniac in Amsterdam. Sure, she took the Gilbert ring that keeps him from dying but hey. A threesome is a threesome. Get it, Matt!

The excitement is definitely building for The CW’s revival of Whose Line is it Anyway? Our favorite cast members are returning and now, we can see, our favorite games are returning as well. I don’t want to jinx anything but based on this preview, lightning may just be able to strike twice with this one. It looks amazing and hilarious and we can’t wait to see our favorites once again.
Check out this preview of the new episodes featuring an appearance by Kevin Mchale.
Whose Line is it Anyway? is set to premiere July 16th on The CW.

Before Carrie Bradshaw was in love with Mr. Big and strutting around New York City in her latest pair of Manolo Blahniks, she was just another girl growing up in the 80s. Struggling with life, high school, romance and fashion, Carrie Bradshaw must have had quite the tales to tell. The CW brings you The Carrie Diaries starring AnnaSophia Robb as a young Carrie Bradshaw at 16 years old. The show takes place in 1984 as Carrie struggles growing up with her widowed father and her rebellious younger sister. Having just landed an internship in Manhattan, Carrie juggles her new life in the city.
Review:
The series also stars Austin Butler as Carrie’s love interest. PCL readers will recognize him from his work on ABC Family’s Switched at Birth. The series is based on the novels The Carrie Diaries and Summer and the City by Candance Bushnell so die-hard fans of Sex and the City may not love the inconsistencies and differences from the original show starring Sarah Jessica Parker.
I personally thought AnnaSophia Robb really shined in this role. She blew me away with her acting and I definitely felt and saw a connection between her and the original Carrie. She’s come a long way since her time at Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
If you take the show for what it is and don’t analyze or compare it to the original hit from HBO, I think you guys will love it. I think if The CW is looking for a new hit to add to their lineup of struggling shows, this fits the bill quite nicely.
The Carrie Diaries airs on The CW Mondays at 8pm Eastern.
