Hello, fellow readers!
As you may have noticed, the site looks a bit different.

Your admins (Noelle, Nicola, and myself) spent all day yesterday perfecting and tweaking, but we’re still not done!
We’ve added some new things we hope you may like. Now it’s easier than ever to get in touch with us on social media: Just check out the icons on the left! We’ve also added our Instagram stream, so please follow us on there if you aren’t already!
If you have any suggestions, be they for new widgets or new graphics, please feel free to pass them along!
ALSO, if you run into anything that DOES NOT WORK– broken links, images not loading, whatever– PLEASE let us know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so we can get to fixing it! You can either leave a comment on the page that has a broken piece or you can shoot an email to noelle@popcitylife.com, but please be specific about the problem in either case.
Thanks for bearing with us in regards to the downtime yesterday! We hope you enjoy the new site!
Hi folks! Today we’d like to bring you a lovely review of the Game of Thrones Stationery Sets by Insight Editions. I’ve had it for a few weeks now and I would’ve reviewed it sooner, but my computer was broken! It’s all right, though– it just gave me more time to fiddle around with the set and bring you an even better review.
We’ll be featuring the House Targaryen set. There are two others at publish time; one for House Stark and one for House Lannister. (Click the photo to be automatically directed to Amazon! Link will open in a new window.)

When Gmail fails you, it fails really hard.
I was going through my Spam folder last night (because you never know– among the poor souls begging me to give them my checking information, there might be some gems), and boy, am I glad I did. An email from one of my favorite bands, Noctura (whose song “Caged” I reviewed here), had released a new EP! Under a new moniker! I quickly flagged the email as NOT SPAM (dammit, Google) and rushed to their website to pick up the new songs.
The Noctura of old was a rock group in the vein of Evanescence and Within Temptation, with vocalist Mandy Suiter’s vocals rising from Kris Haughey and Jeremy Roche’s crunching guitars like a phoenix floating over its own flaming wreckage. That aspect of the music remains, but now Noctura has become Westvale, and they’ve added a bit of electro-pop into the mix!
The EP is unfortunately only four tracks– I’ve already decided they need at least twelve more in order to satisfy my thirst for amazing music featuring female vocalists. (It’s one of those things where most groups meet one qualification or the other, you know?) But those four tracks are fantastic. They’re perfect if you need to get pumped up, to go for a run or beat the shit out of a speed bag. They’re also perfect if you just need to stick the headphones on your head while riding the subway and escape to a surreal, ethereal paradise.

Look, let me preface this post by announcing right off the bat that I do not generally consider myself to be a rap/hip-hop/R&B fan. I definitely don’t have a vendetta against the genre or anything, I just tend to prefer my singers female and hitting notes way up in the stratosphere. You know what I mean?
But! I had a few friends involved with the production of a new artist, and their excitement for the things they were creating was catching. The artist’s name is Charlie Rose, and he’s going to be doing some great things. Having the privilege to watch this album come to fruition, from the early days of recording and slowly releasing preview tracks on SoundCloud to the countdown to release, was really something special.

It’s a new week, which means a brand new episode of Bravo’s popular yachting show Below Deck is floating right around the corner. Are you ready to go overboard with a brand new episode?
To get you in the mood, why not read our email interview with Amy Johnson, where she opens up about working side by side with her brother Kelley Johnson, her history with Kat, what might/might not happen between Kat and Ben and that infamous “rocket ship” created by “chief stew Barbie” Kate.
