[Due to the football takeover of Pix 11, this episode didn’t air in the NJ/NY area until tonight, hence the late recap.]
For those who weren’t paying attention to the final scene of last week’s episode, don’t worry! Bonnie is here to recount the murder of her father by Silas to you, and Jeremy. She explains how he told the entirety of the Town Square to forget watching him kill her dad and focus on finding Katherine. And, while they continue fighting their heart wrenching battle with not being able to touch each other, one thing is clear – don’t give Silas what he wants. And what he wants is Katherine.

Welcome to “The Abattoir ”, a club for those who travel to New Orleans seeking thrills, excitement and a little danger. It’s here, in his domain, that Marcel reveals his secret to keeping the vampires in the city in check with a feeding frenzy in the club at the stroke of midnight. But how could he possibly deal with so many victims at once, Klaus wonders. Easy. Just heal them with vamp blood, erase their memories of the night, and send them on their merry way. “No muss no fuss.” And it’s a good way for the loyal night-dwelling subjects to earn their own daylight rings. Oh to be king…
Tonight’s episode finally brings the long awaited return of Rebekah. After numerous unanswered calls she finally shows up in New Orleans, in search of the assumed missing Elijah. But not before a little homocidal pick me up in the form of 6 nightcrawlers that belong to Marcel. What’s a lost, helpless little girl to do when she’s surrounded by six surly men who could easily overpower her? Pfft… (more…)

Let me take you 300 years in the past on the Mississippi River where an abandoned boat floats ominously through the night. A few powdered wigs venture to explore only to find a set of coffins aboard. One of the brave souls dares to open one of the coffins and the corpse of Kol Mikaelson, youngest of the Original brothers, lies inside. But before any of the men could spare a second glance, a wisp of wind whispers by and Elijah Mikaelson, eldest Original, appears with a gracious introduction. He’s followed by Rebekah Mikaelson, a blonde beauty and the baby of the family, wiping her dainty fangs after having taken a bite out of one man’s life. Harmless and hospitable they may come across, their beast of a half-brother, Niklaus (informally known as Klaus) makes it evident what they truly are – vampires. The original vampires, created over a thousand years ago. And where are they, you might ask? The French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Season five of “The Vampire Diaries” premieres with a few new characters, a few new plot twists, and just the right amount of blood. This is a vampire show, after all!
The prelude of the episode gave glimpses into each character’s summer: Caroline spent the entire summer planning for college and pining over her long distance boyfriend Tyler (we miss you, Michael Trevino! Well…I do). Elena spent the summer kanoodling with Damon on probably every surface in the entire boarding house while dreaming about Stefan’s drowning misery. Is it a doppleganger thing? Speaking of dopplegangers, a now human Katherine was seen struggling through her summer and trying to survive. Girl needed a serious spa day. Just saying! Jeremy, meanwhile, channeled his inner Haley Joel Osment and stayed in touch with his ghost girlfriend. Poor Bonnie is stuck on the ‘other side’ with only Jeremy who can see her. But who would have guessed that Matt was the one who had the most adventurous summer? He spent his two months traveling the world and sharing a bed with a certain Original blonde bombshell and a super hot brunette kleptomaniac in Amsterdam. Sure, she took the Gilbert ring that keeps him from dying but hey. A threesome is a threesome. Get it, Matt!

A new comedy classic has arrived in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s masterful creation, This Is The End. The ultimate apocalypse movie with too many celeb/pop culture references to count, this is a film that can easily be considered the comedy of the year.
