Interview: Sean Bean Talks TNT’s ‘Legends’

Sean Bean is set to star in the new TNT drama series Legends. He’ll be playing the role of Martin Odum, a man who gets lost in the various personalities and identities he must become while working with the FBI. Based on the popular book by Robert Littell, the role is sure to be perfect for the actor who has always been able to transform himself into iconic roles.

Legends is set to premiere Wednesday, August 13th at 9/8c on TNT. We had the chance to speak with Sean Bean about what sets this series apart from other dramas out there.

With such an interesting premise, what, in your opinion, kind of sets Legends apart from similar dramas that are out there?

I think it’s unique in a sense that it deal with psychological aspect of a man who is going undercover, deep undercover, and creating characters that are believable that have their own lives, that have their own apartments, their own cars – he has his own wardrobe for each particular character.

And that’s how I kind of thought of them as very different people but not too dissimilar to myself or Martin Odum who I play.

So I guess I was playing someone who plays someone else who plays someone else. And to me there’s a kind of psychological aspect of that and the way that is portrayed on screen is what kind of distinguishes between the other dramas for instance.

There’s been plenty of buzz lately about the amount of times that Sean Bean has died on screen. He revealed on the conference call that he is aware of the fun campaign going around on the internet. He then went on to say that Game of Thrones was his most memorable on-screen death.

Yes I was kind of quite flattered by it in all honesty. Game of Thrones was a very memorable scene to shoot. I guess it wasn’t quite as physical as Boromir’s death in Lord of the Rings but it was quite a ghastly moment, shocking. And just for the sheer betrayal.

You have this one man that was a moral compass who was a good man and his demise was I think solely lost because he was surrounded by corrupt people, he was in a pit of snakes and I think he’s – I think you know I’m very flattered by the fact that people you know as I’ve gone you know it’s quite a compliment really.

But I guess psychology that was a very dramatic moment for me when I was beheaded. And I think that was what made it particularly shocking and moving.
