Switched at Birth returned tonight after last week’s cliffhanger episode to punch me in the heart and create an endless flow of tears from my eyeballs.
Read on …*sniff*…for our recap of Switched at Birth 3×16: “The Image Disappears” below: Major spoilers ahead.
I’m a nervous wreck as the episode begins. I’m just holding out hope, like the rest of the Kennish-Vasquez family. The episode starts off with a flashback to 15 years ago, when Angelo found out that Daphne wasn’t his daughter. Regina told him to leave them and now she frets about this decision. She never told him about the switch and they could have had all those years together.
The episode is full of “What Could Have Beens” including a really random one that Bay has where she’s in labor with twins. While giving blood, Bay passes out and imagines Angelo coaching her at her bedside while Daphne envisions him walking her down the aisle on her wedding day. This is too much for me. I’m getting choked up. When Emmett shows up, it’s just too emotional! Kathryn sitting to pray with Regina is hurting my heart.
Well, you’re all probably wondering how Angelo is doing. The doctors believe he has a bad brain injury. He’s out of surgery and he’s stable. That’s a good sign so Regina urges Daphne to leave and take her SATs. Unfortunately, while she’s gone, Angelo’s brain begins to bleed and he is rushed back into surgery.
Upon her return, Daphne and Bay are arguing in the hall when Daphne stares at the doctor and reads his lips. Her face is one of heartbreak when she realizes what she’s reading.
Angelo is brain dead. He can’t recover.
What a horrible way for her to find out! Katie’s face is so sad! I’m so upset. I hate this show. But I love this show.
The inevitable talk of whether or not to pull the plug rests on Regina’s shoulders. Regina is full of guilt and wonders if this is all her fault because of the fight they had had. The police actually suggest that this may have been a suicide attempt. That’s too horrible! John feels guilty himself when he confesses that Angelo came to him for a loan and he said no.
The doctors are already suggesting organ donation and Regina and Bay are in a lot of denial. Regina refuses to give up on Angelo and Bay is heartbroken because she can’t remember the last conversation she had with him. While going through Angelo’s apartment to find his mother’s phone number, Emmett finds Angelo’s will. It tells them what to do in a situation like this.
They agree to take Angelo off of life support after Angelo’s mother says goodbye over the phone. My tears are flowing now. I would probably be a sobbing mess on the floor if there was some sad piano music playing right now like an episode of LOST.
Thankfully, the families learn that suicide probably wasn’t the cause. Angelo had a pre-existing condition and a brain aneurysm caused his crash. They are told that stress, high blood pressure, and anger could have caused it. Daphne explodes at Regina and blames her for the tragedy.
“This is all your fault.”
What did you think of Switched at Birth 3×16? Will you miss Angelo and Gilles Marini on the show? How many times did you cry? Be honest.
