The Librarians 4×10 – Some Dude Named Jeff – Recap

In The Librarians 4×10, directed by Lindy Booth, Jenkins body-switches with a 28-year-old slacker named Jeff. To correct this mistake, he must find his way back to the Library. Will he succeed?

Eve and her Librarians are ready to go on yet another adventure at the beginning of The Librarians 4×10, but they need Jenkins to fire up the back door. To them, everything seems usual, with Jenkins ready to set up their destination. Only we can see that something is wrong – it is not Jenkins we see in the Annex, it’s… some dude.

In the meantime, the real Jenkins wakes up in a house he doesn’t recognize, wearing clothes that are clearly not his. When he looks himself in the mirror, what he sees is not his reflection, but someone else’s – that of the person currently serving as Jenkins inside the Library.

Searching the house, Jenkins learns that the man he apparently switched bodies with is named Jeff Peppers. Jeff lives with his mother… and a lot of cats. Jenkins also meets Jeff’s friends and ask them for a ride back to St. John’s Bridge, which is the Annex’s location in Portland.

As soon as Jenkins arrives outside the Annex and tries to get in, the access is denied. From the inside, our Librarians sees an unfamiliar man trying to access the Annex. In short, they see Jeff, not Jenkins, who they believe is currently with them inside the Library.

His mission failed, Jenkins goes back to Jeff’s house, where he finds his friends waiting for him and playing D&D. Much to his surprise, Jenkins finds out that they have chosen the names of The Librarians for their role-playing game. There is Cassandra the Sorceress, Stone the Ranger, Eve the Warrior Princess, and Flynn the Wise Sage. Ezekiel, of course, is the Cunning Thief.

Jenkins finds out Jeff has an obsession with the Librarians. He has collected photos, articles, all kind of information about them and the Library. In particular, Jeff has a real obsession with Jenkins. As The Librarians 4×10 continues, the Caretaker comes to the conclusion that Jeff has intentionally switched bodies with him.

Back at the Library, the real Librarians start to wonder whether something’s wrong with their Jenkins. When Cassandra finds a book they have never seen before, she questions him about it, and he is quick to grab it back and find a hiding place. It looks like that book is what helped Jeff switch bodies with Jenkins.

Meanwhile, the real Jenkins finds out how Jeff came into the possession of the book. He bought it online from a bookshop that was being liquidated. His intention was to use it as material to play D&D, but when one of Jeff’s friends shows him the book, Jenkins recognizes it immediately: It’s the Asmodeus Grimoire, also known as the most dangerous book in the world. And it’s currently inside the Library.

As The Librarians 4×10 continues, Jenkins understands that he has to go back to the Library immediately and retrieve the dangerous book. Since he can’t access the Library from the front door, he’ll have to break in via the secret entrance. But he’s going to need the help of Jeff’s friends, since to pass through booby traps, teamwork is required. He reveals his true identity, and much to his surprise, they believe him with no objection. They suspected Jeff was onto something, and they can’t wait to actually spend some time with the real Jenkins.

In spending time with Jeff’s friends, Jenkins realizes that they are not so different from the actual Librarians after all: lonely people who found one another and created their own kind of family.

Back to the mission. Jenkins and Jeff’s friends gain access to the Library via a secret entrance and start facing the first of three chambers, each containing a trial. As it happens, each trial was designed so that one of Jeff’s friends would be able to solve it.

Inside the Library, Eve and the Librarians finally expose Jeff. He explains who he really is, how he found an old book with magic in it, and how he used it to switch bodies with Jenkins. When Jeff shows the book to the Librarians, they see some sort of liquid on the floor that’s coming from the book. On the floor, they see what appear to be hoof prints. Something is inside the Library. Something that came out from the book.

In the meantime, thanks to the abilities of Jeff’s friends, Jenkins finally has access to the Library via the back door. Before parting with them, he dubs them the three honorary Knights of Camelot.

Finally inside the Library, Jenkins finds the Librarians and their Guardian trapped by what appears to be webbing. Shortly after, Jenkins finds Jeff hiding with the book. He explains that a monster came out from it and attacked the Librarians. The monster is called Asmodeus, one of the Seven Princes of Hell. Centuries ago, Merlin entrapped Asmodeus in the spell book that Jeff found. By using the book, Jeff released Asmodeus. Jenkins explains that he must find Asmodeus and entrap him again.

Our Caretaker needs to be back in his own body first, but Jeff seems reluctant to go back to his usual life. He was actually enjoying being someone else, someone brave like Jenkins. In reply, the Caretaker tells him: “I think I’m coming to realize that I’ve been concentrating on the negative a little too much, because on the other side, there are wonderful, amazing things in this life, in your life. And we have to embrace it all. Because, really, what’s the point of having a life if one does not live it fully?”

Thanks to a potion that should put Jenkins and Jeff back into their own respective bodies, the two are ready to go and face Asmodeus. Using teamwork, Jeff and Jenkins are able to defeat the monster, thus freeing Eve and the Librarians. What’s more, Jeff realizes he was able to defeat the monster with his own body!

From this whole adventure, Jenkins has acquired a unique point of view, and learned that people can actually be “quite delightful.” Our Caretaker has certainly made new friends. Friends with whom he can eat pizza and play D&D.
