“Nothing, they say, is more certain
than death, and nothing more
uncertain than the time of dying.”
While Nick has to face a wesen unlike any other he has encountered, Eve puts herself in jeopardy by deciding to investigate the mystery of the mirror alone.
Read on for our recap of Grimm 6×10, “Blood Magic.”
As Grimm 6×10 begins, we learn that Monroe and Rosalee are letting Eve staying at their house. Monroe is obviously worried for the safety of his wife and unborn babies, but Rosalee has a point: The skull monster is a threat to all of them, and Eve needs help. They can’t just walk away now.
In the meantime, Eve consults Adalind to find a way to go through mirrors. Specifically, she wants to know if it’s possible to do so before the skull monster comes back. Adalind is not sure that’s a good idea, but Eve insists that Adalind’s mother could have written down something useful about portals to other dimensions. In the end, Adalind concedes, and back at the spice shop, Eve consults the books that belonged to Adalind’s mother.
Before Nick can try to talk to Eve about her plans, he’s called in by Hank. There’s a new case to investigate. A young woman, Maddie Simms, was found dead on (yes, on) her car. Her injury suggests it was a wesen job, and Hank finds out a similar attack was perpetrated just a few days ago, with no suspects and evidence.
The next day, Wu, Hank, and Nick have to handle another case. An old woman, Margaret Cutler, died in her sleep at a retirement home after being assaulted the previous day by an orderly named Mason Wilcox. While being arrested Mason claimed that Margaret was a monster that attacked him. Nick and Hank think they might know what happened. Wesen again?
As Grimm 6×10 continues, Renard calls Adalind. He wants to know what’s happening with the symbols Diana drew, and asks to see the tunnel. Adalind hesitates and tells him he will have to talk to Nick about it.
Back at the precinct, Nick and Hank talk to Mason. Mason recalls the moment when he saw Margaret turn into some kind of monster with yellow eyes and teeth like those of a dog. When she tried to assault him, he defended himself, and she turned back into Margaret. That’s when a nurse saw him and thought he was attacking the old woman. Hank and Nick believe Margaret was wesen and Mason is telling the truth. Mason is shocked that someone finally believes him.
Meanwhile, Eve finds something interesting in one of the books she’s analyzing. She calls Adalind to ask if she knows anything about blood magic. The book says that blood is associated with crossing over in death – could it be used as a form of payment to pass into another world? Adalind is skeptical and warns Eve that blood magic is very dangerous.
Back at the precinct, Nick and Hank find out there was a very high level of hyaluronidase in Margaret’s system. We learn in Grimm 6×10 that the enzyme is found in bug saliva – specifically the saliva of the assassin bug. This bug uses hyaluronidase to create a sort of cocktail that kills its victims.
Nick and Hank go to the spice shop to ask Monroe and Rosalee about a wesen that could use hyaluronidase to kill its victims. Monroe has an idea: There’s a wesen called Gevatter Tod, Godfather of Death. Monroe and Rosalee assume correctly that Margaret was suffering from dementia, which Rosalee explains is very complicated for wesen because they experience uncontrolled woges. The Gevatter Tod is called to protect the wesen community in those cases. They “take care” of wesen with dementia, which is how wesen have stayed secret for long. Essentially, the Gevatter Tod protects their identity.
Monroe and Rosalee will not give Nick and Hank the name of the Gevatter Tod unless they promise not to arrest him or her. They promise, Rosalee calls a number. A voice tells her that she will be contacted soon.
Nick and Hank head back to the precinct, where Wu has something to show them: It’s surveillance footage from the night Maddie Simms was killed. Wu points out that an old man was within one block of where Maddie was killed, and was near another similar killing.
Renard interrupts by calling Nick into his office. He demands an explanation about what’s going on with the symbols Diana drew, and why she’s involved in something dangerous. Nick doesn’t give up the information, though – not before Renard shares his…
As Grimm 6×10 reaches its conclusion, the Gevatter Tod contacts Rosalee, who gives him her address and then calls Nick to come over. The Gevatter Tod is a doctor who works at the retirement home, and he and Nick have a confrontation. The Gevatter Tod confirms that he helped Margaret pass, and they convince him to help clear Mason for Margaret’s death. At that moment, he receives a call. A wesen whose husband suffers from dementia is attacking her. Nick, Hank, Monroe and Rosalee decide to go with the Gevatter Tod since Rosalee knows the wesen involved. As it turns out, the wesen with dementia is the one who attacked and killed Maddie Simms. Nick, Hank, and Monroe manage to bring him back home, where the Gevatter Tod helps him pass peacefully next to his wife.
While Monroe and Rosalee are away helping Nick and the Gevatter Tod, Eve comes to their house, hoping to let them know she has made a breakthrough in her studies. She doesn’t find them, but all the same, she proceeds to stand in front of a mirror in their house. She spreads some of her blood on it, and the mirror suddenly becomes a sort of portal. But a portal to what? Eve gets inside, and as soon as she does so, the mirror is back to being a mirror. How will Eve be able to return now? And where exactly did she go?
