The legacy of Winnie the Pooh has been captivating children and children at heart for almost 100 years. Living on through the pages of A.A. Milne and growing and evolving through Disney, these beloved characters will always have a special place in our hearts.
Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical is bringing this joy to New York City with a limited engagement off Broadway. Rockefeller Productions have assembled a talented team of designers, artists, and puppeteers to bring these timeless tales to life with a combination of “full-of-fluff” puppets and original music. Don’t worry, Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical is the perfect blend of familiar stories and the classic songs from the Sherman Brothers we have all grown up with. This combination is a loving tribute to the history and character we all know and love.

Visiting Old Friends
We had the opportunity to attend a preview of a 2022 showing of Winnie The Pooh: The New Musical. Located on West 42nd St, along Theatre Row, you begin to be immersed in the world of Winnie The Pooh and Friends as soon as you walk up to the building. It’s important to note that this theatre has elevator access for those that need it, which may sometimes be a concern for older venues.
Merchandise is limited, which would be my one negative thought about the experience. I love to collect magnets and keychains and things of that sort. However, the merchandise is perfect for the younger target audience. A wall of plushes greets you behind the merch desk and will make you feel like you are at a Disney Store. Other than your favorite fluffy friends and a t-shirt, a tote bag was the only other option if you wanted something to remember the show by. While cute, at 20 dollars, it seemed a higher price than other local productions.
Sadly, there were no traditional “Playbill” type programs given upon entry, which I was looking forward to because I enjoy reading about the history of the show and the cast and crew. This is all available online however and can be viewed at their official website.
An Immersive Experience
The theatre itself was cool and spacious. In a room like this, every seat is a good one. The ambiance reminded me of a queue for a show at Disney World, where attention to detail is always considered. Little ones may want to be as close as possible to the action so VIP ticket options are available for purchase. The price for these is higher than a regular seat, but younger guests may not understand why they can’t hug their favorite pals and it may be worth the price to avoid a tantrum. I’m an adult and even I wanted to hug them!
The performers were so committed to the magic and making every guest’s experience a happy and fun one. I appreciated and marveled at how much of everything the performers were able to handle. Whether it be tackling more than one character or role, creating the ambiance, or performing a song, we were very impressed with this cast and so happy we got to experience them.
