“Thy rod and thy staff
They comfort me.”
Take one last adventure with us as we relive Grimm‘s final episode.
Read on for our recap of Grimm 6×13, “The End,” a.k.a. the Grimm series finale.
Last week’s penultimate episode of Grimm left us with the Zerstörer being confronted by Nick, Hank, and Wu at the precinct. Tragically, the monster killed both Wu and Hank, and knocked Nick unconscious.
As Grimm 6×13 begins, Nick tries to use the stick on Wu and Hank to bring them back to life. In this heartbreaking scene, Nick realizes that the stick doesn’t seem to work on his friends.
Trubel arrives to witness the aftermath of the Zerstörer’s massacre. She and Nick agree that if bullets won’t kill this beast, they will have to deal with him like their Grimm ancestors – by cutting off his head.
At the cabin in the woods, Adalind receives a call from Nick. He informs her and Renard that the Zerstörer has killed Wu, Hank, and every single cop who was inside the precinct. Adalind tells him about Diana’s dream, in which she saw that the Zerstörer doesn’t want just her, but also little Kelly. Nick sends Trubel to the cabin, as a Grimm must be there in case the Zerstörer arrives.
At the spice shop, Eve, Monroe, and Rosalee are looking in every possible book to find a way to stop the Zerstörer. Monroe finds a book that says “When a beast like the Zerstörer appears invincible, and death the only fate to those who fight it, only the Strength of One’s Blood can overcome the great evil and destroy the destroyer.” But what exactly is the Strength of One’s Blood? Rosalee has an idea: It’s a potion. Rosalee recalls that it is not easy to make, it takes a lot of time, and it requires the blood of three opposing forces: a Grimm, a Wesen, and a Hexenbiest.
Nick joins Eve, Rosalee, and Monroe at the spice shop. They still don’t know about Hank and Wu, so Nick has to tell them. Our friends have to put their sadness and anger aside to tell Nick about the potion, and how it works.
Back at the cabin in the woods, Renard apologizes to Adalind for all his mistakes. They both agree that they certainly did one thing right: Diana. Adalind recalls the days of Black Claw and asks Renard if she will ever be able to take the engagement ring Bonaparte forced her to wear. Great harm would befall her children if she did so, and even if Bonaparte is now dead, she prefers to not take any chances. While they’re talking, Trubel arrives at the cabin.
At the spice shop, half of the potion is ready. Now Rosalee needs to get Adalind’s blood, along with Nick and the blood of a Wesen (Monroe) simultaneously. They agree to meet at the cabin. Eve apologizes to Nick for not being a Hexenbiest anymore. If she still were, they could have completed the potion at the spice shop without losing time.
Suddenly, the Zerstörer erupts into the spice shop. Eve screams at Nick to go because his blood is needed – they can’t risk his death. The beast, using its powers, forces Eve to stab herself and then disappears. Eve dies in Nick’s arms, and once again, the stick appears to be useless.
In the meantime, Rosalee and Monroe arrive at the cabin. They explain their plan to Adalind and Renard. Shortly after, Nick joins his friends and breaks the bad news about Eve.
Unfortunately, our friends don’t have time to grieve their loss – they have to try to complete the potion. Finally, the Strength of One’s Blood is ready.
As Grimm 6×13 continues, Diana wakes up. She tells her parents that she feels different – she’s not scared anymore. She also says the Zerstörer is coming to the cabin. The beast knows where Nick is because of the stick, and he wants the stick for himself.
There’s no time for the group to collect their thoughts before the Zerstörer is inside the cabin. Diana is right in front of the beast, which woges into a human form. He takes Diana’s hand, and together they try to leave the cabin. Diana doesn’t seem to be scared at all. Her father tries to stop the monster, while Nick tells Trubel to take Kelly and leave.
Outside the cabin, Renard tries to fight the Zerstörer, but he succumbs too, dying in front of his daughter… who seems totally indifferent. Nick, Monroe, and Adalind come to help, with Monroe managing to spread the potion all over the Zerstörer’s face, making the beast scream in pain.
It was all an illusion, though. After a few seconds, the Zerstörer’s face is back being frighteningly normal. The potion failed to work. All our friends now try to fight the beast but to no avail. Adalind dies, and once again, Nick has to witness the death of a woman he loves.
Rosalee tries to steal the Zerstörer’s staff, but once it is in her hands, the staff turns into a snake. First, it kills Rosalee, and then Monroe when he tries to rescue her.
Trubel, left alone with Kelly inside the cabin,is soon joined by the Zerstörer and Diana, who seems to be on the beast’s side. Trubel follows the fate of her friends, dying in front of Nick, who’s the only one left alive.
Diana tells the Zerstörer that they are ready now – her brother likes him, too.
Nick tells the Zerstörer that he won’t let him take his son. The beast woges back into human form and tells him that none of this needs to happen – Nick just has to give up the stick. Nick replies that he’s not interested, and the Zerstörer tells him that he will be. He then proceeds to bring Trubel back to life, and tells Nick he could do the same for all the others.
At first, Nick agrees to give away the stick, but Trubel stops him. She points out that if the Zerstörer wants the stick so badly, why he just doesn’t take it? Why is he asking Nick for it?
In spite of Trubel’s suggestions, Nick seems to have made up his mind. He wants the people he loves back, and he’s willing to give the stick to the Zerstörer. His fellow Grimm tries to stop him, and the two fight. Nick retrieves the stick, ready to give it to the beast, but a voice stops him. It’s the voice of his mother, who appears in front of him. Kelly tells him he must not give away what he holds.
Nick still seems to be determined, though, so someone else’s voice comes through: Aunt Marie’s. She tells him that he must not do what he wants to do. The Zerstörer has killed all his friends to make him give the stick away willingly, and if he were to give up the stick, he would condemn the world to endless pain and suffering. It would be like the world he saw in the Other Place.
Nick wants his friends back, but his mother tells him that he can defeat the evil with the Strength of One’s Blood. Nick replies that they have tried, but Kelly replies that he didn’t. The strength of his blood, the blood of all his Grimm ancestors is already inside of him. The strength he needs comes from his family.
Nick goes back to face the Zerstörer with his mother, his aunt, and Trubel. Together, they all fight against the evil, and this time, they seem successful. The beast, injured by the three women, lets the staff drop. Nick retrieves it, and in that moment, the stick is glued back to the staff.
Finally, Nick hits the Zerstörer with the staff. The beast drops to the floor, dead. A dark smoke comes out from its mouth.
Kelly explains to Nick that all of them are descendants of the first Grimm,. The stick he found – the one that was buried by Grimms – is part of a much greater power. The staff will need to be guarded very well. Kelly and Marie tell him that they just helped him find his own inner strength.
Trubel tells Nick that she can’t believe the two of them managed to kill the beast. All this time, Nick was the only one who saw his mother and aunt, who have now disappeared.
Our Grimm is still desperate, though, because he couldn’t save his friends. He kneels down next to Adalind and takes off the engagement ring Bonaparte forced her to wear. He throws it away.
Diana comes out of the cabin, asking Nick where the other Grimms went – the ones who helped him kill the Zerstörer. Suddenly, Nick remembers. The staff brought Trubel back to life. It could bring all the others back too!
Meanwhile, though, something’s happening to the Zerstörer’s body. It turns into ashes, and from those ashes, a new portal is opened. The staff seems to be magnetically attracted to the portal. Nick doesn’t let the staff go, and he is sucked inside.
After a few seconds, he finds himself on the floor inside Monroe’s house. All his friends are there, alive. He is astonished. Adalind doesn’t have her engagement ring anymore, Hank and Wu arrive at the house with Rosalee, and Nick can’t believe it. He hugs everyone, incredulous, while his friends can’t understand what is happening to him. Trubel arrives too, but they all greet her as if it’s the first time they see her – aside from Nick, of course.
Diana approaches Eve, telling her she is a Hexenbiest again. Eve doesn’t seem to understand – when wasn’t she a Hexenbiest in the first place? The little girl then tells Nick that the beast didn’t make it through the portal. She also says the Zerstörer is dead, and she is not afraid anymore.
Nick tells his friends that he felt what it would be like to lose all of them, and he is so grateful they are all with him, alive and well. Monroe then notices that something actually made it through the portal: a staff…
Flash forward to 20 years later…
Inside a trailer in the forest, a voice is narrating a story of how, in the final, epic battle with the terrible beast from the Other Place, Nick Burkhardt discovered that the only way to defeat such evil was with the strength of his blood, his Aunt Marie, his mother Kelly, and Trubel, his third cousin on his mother’s side… the power of the ancestors. The voice keeps narrating that even though the people of our world would never know how close they had come to hell on Earth, he knew, because he never turned away from who he was, a Grimm.
We finally see the face of the voice narrating this story: A young man, who’s writing and reporting about Nick’s battle in a book. He continues, Thanks to Nick’s battle, the world has changed. Some will say it’s just myth, legend, or fairy tale, but the young man writing knows it’s true because his father told him so.
The young man writing is Kelly, Nick’s son. He is joined inside the trailer by his sister, Diana, who’s now a beautiful young woman. She says that mom and dad are waiting. They’ve got wesen to kill. The triplets (Rosalee and Monroe’s) are coming too…
And this is The End.
I think the Grimm series finale was perfect in every aspect. Good has defeated evil, with Nick and his family and friends still fighting to protect the world.
A huge thank you goes to the Grimm cast and crew for six amazing seasons. I’m going to miss this show very much. Thank you all for reading my Grimm recaps.
