“Maybe this world is another planet’s hell.”
The final season of Grimm began with an intense episode in which Renard hunted down Nick.
Read on for our recap of Grimm 6×01, “Fugitive.”
A way out?
The Grimm season 5 finale ended with Renard and Nick just staring at each other. Was Nick thinking that Renard just saved his life, or did he realize something else must have happened? And what is Renard going to do after killing Black Claw’s founder?
Season 6 (Grimm‘s final season) begins right where we were left. Nick asks Renard why he decided to stop Bonaparte and kill him, and the captain says he’s not sure. That said, he leaves Nick’s loft, leaving Nick surrounded by all the dead enemies.
Under the loft, Nick’s friends are trying to find a way out, and Monroe and Rosalee seem to find it. They have to go and tell the others, but first Rosalee tells Monroe she doesn’t want to tell their friends she’s pregnant yet. She’s scared they won’t make it out alive, but Monroe reassures her that everything’s going to be all right.
Meanwhile in Grimm 6×01, Trubel and Eve are waiting for the others when Eve suddenly turns into a Hexenbiest for a moment. Has the miraculous stick not cured her after all?
Hank, Wu, Monroe, Rosalee, Trubel, and Eve all regroup, and Monroe says he has found a way out. They decide to check on Nick first – they can’t leave him behind.
When the group hears a noise, they are ready to fight an enemy, but instead they see Nick in front of them, alive. They are shocked – and even more shocked when they find out Nick has killed all the enemies. Their friend updates them on Bonaparte’s death, telling them it was Renard who killed him. The shocks keep coming when everyone notices the bullet holes in his clothes. It appears the miraculous stick has worked its magic on him, too.
Placing the blame
When Renard goes back home, Adalind is waiting for him. He tells her Nick is still alive, and Bonaparte is dead. Adalind thinks it was Nick who killed Bonaparte, but Renard tells her it was him, even though he’s not entirely sure. After all, he didn’t realize what he was doing until after he saw Bonaparte lying dead in front of him. Ultimately, they realize it was Diana who committed the murder. However, Renard has no intention of telling the Black Claw what happened. Someone else will have to take the blame for Bonaparte’s death.
Back at Nick’s loft, Eve asks how he healed her, and he shows her the miraculous stick. Eve says that she feels something has changed in her.
As Grimm 6×01 continues, Renard talks with an affiliate of the Black Claw and blames Bonaparte’s death on Nick. He goes back to the precinct, where he puts out a search warrant for Nick.
Meanwhile, Adalind calls Nick to ask him to come over. She needs to see him, but can’t leave the house with the children there.
A pure soul
Eve, Monroe, Rosalee, and Trubel go back to the spice shop to get rid of the enemies’ bodies. When Eve grabs one of their arms, she falls into a kind of trance. Rosalee immediately understands that she is experiencing a death grip, during which someone who’s dead can trade a pure soul for freedom from hell. But can Eve be a pure soul after everything she did? Is it possible that the stick healed her soul as well?
When Wu and Hank go back to the precinct, they are informed that Renard is blaming Nick for the death of two Black Claw cops who were actually killed by Wu. Renard wants Nick dead or alive – it doesn’t matter.
Speaking of Nick, he manages to visit Adalind and their son Kelly. When he sees Adalind’s engagement ring, Adalind tells him Bonaparte put it there with a spell. If she tries to take it off, it will cause pain to her children. Although Bonaparte is now dead, she is not sure if the spell has survived him.
In the meantime, Hank calls Nick to warn him about Renard’s intentions, and advises him to find a place to hide and lie low for a while. Hank also calls Trubel and Eve to warn them about Renard, while Wu calls Rosalee and Monroe.
When Trubel shows Eve the cloth in which the stick was wrapped, Eve sees patterns on it, but Trubel doesn’t. Eve says she has seen them before, and for a brief moment, we see the patterned face of the Black Claw wesen who wanted to exercise the death grip on her.
In hiding
As Grimm 6×01 progresses, Nick decides to hide at Bud’s shop. He makes Bud call Hank and Wu under the pretense that someone has broken into his shop, but the duo understands immediately that Nick is with him. When they arrive at Bud’s shop, Rosalee, Monroe, Trubel, and Eve are there too. They all agree it is too dangerous for Nick to stay in Portland.
Eve shows Nick and the others the patterns she saw on the stick’s cloth. No one seems to have seen them before, and Nick still has the stick on him. Eve tells him he shouldn’t carry it with him all the time.
In the meantime, Hank and Wu are called to investigate the death of Rachel Wood, Renard’s lover. We know she was killed by Diana, who wanted her father and mother to be together, but fingerprint analysis shows Renard’s fingerprints all over the place…
In the closing minutes of Grimm 6×01, the police surround Bud’s shop, with Nick and his friends still inside. They ask Eve if she can do something to help, but it seems her powers have disappeared. Renard orders his men to take them all down. How will they escape?
