Everywhere you look, everywhere you go… there’s someone, like me, who is way too excited for Fuller House season 2. One of our favorite families from the ’80s and ’90s is back for a second season on Netflix, and we’ve got familiar catchphrases and New Kids on the Block to look forward to.
We spoke with Ashley Liao, who stars in the Netflix original as Lola, about how excited she is to be promoted to series regular on the series, what fans can look forward to from the new season, Lola’s relationship with Jackson, and what we can expect from her next.
Read on for our exclusive interview with Ashley Liao below:
First of all, congratulations on being promoted to a series regular on Netflix’s Fuller House. How excited were you?
I’m super duper excited!
Can you tell us a little about your character and what attracted you to the role?
I play a girl named Lola and she is Ramona’s best friend and Jackson’s crush, I guess you could say. I originally got the audition while I was in Hawaii. I was working on a movie at the time so I couldn’t go in to the audition, which meant that I had to self-tape it. I got my video camera and that’s kind of how we sent that in.
Were you a fan of the original series or was a major binge-a-thon necessary?
Before I got the Fuller House audition, I didn’t actually watch Full House every week. I missed that being a few years too young [laughs] so I didn’t get to watch that weekly. As soon as I got the audition I did go and make sure I knew everyone’s catchphrases and the comedic timing of the show. Now I’m definitely a fan of Full House – I love it.
What do you love about joining a show that is kind of unique in that it already has a built in fanbase and a love from the audience?
The fans are one thing that I really love that have carried on from Full House to Fuller House. It’s really amazing to see how the viewers have grown up with the show and now they get to watch it with their children. It’s so full circle.
It’s like Full House: The Next Generation. How has it been working with the cast so far? Any memories that stick out for you?
They’ve been so incredibly sweet, and so welcoming too. We just went to San Francisco this past week with the entire cast. That was a lot of fun. We all got to hang out and eat dinner together. That was probably one of my favorite memories from the whole season.
Can you preview a little of what’s ahead for Lola in the upcoming episodes?
Well, you get to know a little bit more about Lola and more about what she does and the fun things about her. Definitely more about her relationship with Jackson and how that continues from season 1 to season 2. I don’t want to spoil it all but you’ll definitely be able to watch it all soon!
Lola and Jackson get to work together a lot and explore their own story lines, with Lola being Jackson’s crush. Do you enjoy working together?
I love working with Michael. He’s so sweet and so hilarious. We joke around a lot on set. We like to play pranks on each other, we do NERF gun wars, and we have so much fun on set.
The cast is such a great one. Is there anyone else you would love to work with someday, if you could pick anybody?
Difficult. I would love to be on Grey’s Anatomy. That’s one show that I’ve followed since it came out on Netflix. I’ve been a huge fan. I’d love to work with Ellen Pompeo. I think she’s so sweet and so amazing. That’s the one person I’d really love to work with. Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things – so in love with her and her work. I’m such a huge fan of both of them.
Netflix is the ultimate binge-watch portal. I love asking different people what their favorite series are to sit down and enjoy on a night in.
Oh, yeah. You want to start a lot of funny shows. I watch a lot of comedy shows. I finished Parks and Rec in almost a record time. I’m almost embarrassed to say how fast I finished all 8 seasons of it. I watched all 13 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy in two months. Not really healthy, but it was the best two months of my life! Stranger Things is also really great, and a Netflix original. It’s so good. My mom and I rewatched it in an entire day. Each episode is an hour long and we spent a good eight hours sitting down and watching it. It kind of sucked us in.
Thanks so much to Ashley Liao for taking the time to chat with us! We really appreciate it!
