“We have to distrust each other.
It is our only defense against betrayal.”
Black Claw seems to always be one step ahead of Nick. Will Nick be able to save his son, Kelly, now that Adalind was forced to join Renard? Find out in our recap of Grimm 5×20, “Bad Night” – the last episode before the two-hour season finale, airing this Friday.
At the beginning of Grimm 5×20, Nick reads the message Adalind left him before leaving with Kelly. He tries to call Hank, but his friend is too “busy” with Zuri to answer the call.
Adalind meets Renard, but Diana is not there; Black Claw wanted to be sure Adalind was coming alone. Renard explains that he’s not in control of everything. We also learn the that the mayoral election is the next day, and that Renard intends for them to be a family – Kelly included.
In the meantime, Nick drives to Renard’s house, only to find it empty.
Wu is still very upset about the discovery that he’s a Lycanthrope. The only way for him to live with his new situation is if he is able to control it, and that’s what he tries to do… apparently succeeding.
Nick runs to Rosalee and Monroe and updates them about the situation. He wants to go and find his son, but Rosalee and Monroe convince him that he should be careful not to jeopardize Kelly’s life.
Diana joins her mom and dad, finally. She immediately tries to play with her baby brother, albeit in a non-conventional way… She makes him fly around the room, much to his mom’s shock.
Later on Grimm 5×20, at Monroe and Rosalee’s house, Nick’s friends try to convince him that his best move is to inform the Hadrian’s Wall about what happened. When they meet with Eve, Trubel and Meisner, he has something to show them: a Black Claw corporate structure. Near the top, we find Lucien (as we already knew), and now also Renard.
Nick tells the trio about Adalind and Kelly. Eve says Adalind needed to reunite with Renard so it would seem he has a family, as that makes him more electable. Meisner notices that Nick is too emotional – he’s not thinking straight, so Meisner tells Trubel to keep an eye on him.
Meanwhile, Zuri waits until Hank is asleep to take his phone and give it to someone from Black Claw, while Renard calls Nick and suggests they meet at his office to talk.
The man from Black Claw to whom Zuri gave Hank’s phone comes back to the house to put Hank’s phone back in his jacket. Hank surprises him, thinking he’s a thief, and attacks him. The phone is already back in the jacket, so Hank doesn’t suspect anything.
When they meet, Renard tries to convince Nick that Black Claw is the only future possible, and that Nick, as a Grimm, is not part of the humans who don’t deserve to live next to wesen. Black Claw wants Grimms to be with them, not against them. Nick doesn’t accept, of course.
When Nick comes back home, he shows Trubel the magical stick he found in Germany. Trubel is skeptical at first, but after Nick tells her what it did to Monroe, she thinks the stick is just a piece of something bigger, as if it broke off something. For the moment, Nick decides to hide the stick back inside the tunnel under his house, and he shows Trubel where exactly he’s putting it. As a Grimm, she needs to know.
As Grimm 5×20 continues, Nick and Hank meet at the precinct the next morning, and Hank updates Nick on his adventure at Zuri’s house. Hank thinks the guy who broke into her house is Black Claw and was there looking for him. Nick updates Hank on his news as well, and together they go interrogate Hank’s suspect.
They realize Hank’s suspect knows Nick is a Grimm, so they decide to find out what kind of wesen he is before taking further action. They go to Rosalee and Monroe for help, and we find out that Hank’s thief is Rosalee’s former friend from Seattle, Tony – the one who assaulted her and Adalind. Adalind broke all the fingers of his left hand, revealing her Hexenbiest powers were coming back.
Wu calls with information about what he found on Tony’s computer: everything on Hank’s phone. Hank begins to suspect Zuri might have helped Tony, so bring her to the HW’s HQ, where Meisner, Eve, and Trubel are ready to get the information they need from her.
In the meantime, our friends learn that Renard is now the mayor of Portland. Nick has to watch his former captain’s speech on TV – and he also has to painfully watch Renard calling Adalind on stage, along with Diana and Kelly.
