“A sucker is born every minute…”
Nick has a chance to confront Juliette about her new identity. Will he have the answers he is looking for?
Read on for our recap of Grimm 5×08, “A Reptile Dysfunction.”
After his encounter with the “new” Juliette, who from now on we have to call Eve, Nick reports what happened at the restaurant to Renard, Wu and Hank: The way Eve killed one of the Black Claw’s organizers, Samuel Rankin, and how she left him to deal with the other two wesen he had to kill. Nick reports to Renard that Meisner is Eve’s “boss.” When Renard hears Meisner’s name, he tells his team that he knows him – he was working with the Resistance. For the moment, Renard tells Nick to cover up Rankin’s death as best as possible, and to find out who the other two wesen were.
Rosalee receives another letter from one of her old friends from Seattle, and reads it with Monroe. He wants to come to Portland to see her.
Trubel pays a visit to Nick and Hank, and she is able to identify the two wesen Nick had to kill. They were Rankin’s bodyguards, Sig Ganz and Otto Gruenwaldt. It also turns out that Rankin’s name wasn’t his actual one. His real name was Rolf Kleinager and he was one of the founders of Black Claw. Trubel also has to bring Nick to Meisner at a secret location where Trubel spent her time after she was kidnapped by Chavez. Inside, there are several rooms where Trubel, Eve, Meisner and others live. When Nick asks who is keeping them there, Meisner replies that it is a branch of the Federal Government, which obviously doesn’t officially exist.
Nick wants to see Eve. When they meet, Nick asks if she really believes in what she is fighting for, and she tells him she has found a reason to live. Nick asks her if she feels any kind of remorse for anything that she has done, but Eve tells him he is not talking to Juliette anymore, and he has to stop living in the past. As of Grimm 5×08, her only regret is that he didn’t have a chance to bury Juliette.
After that, Eve brings Nick to a room that is the center of operations. Meisner and Eve explain to Nick that Black Claw wants a world dominated by wesen. They are all over the world. There is something else Meisner has to show Nick: They had found his mother’s body and buried her with the other people who died trying to fight Black Claw.
Meanwhile, near a lake outside Portland, a woman and her husband are attacked by a strange creature that kills the man. The woman was able to snap a photo before the attack. It turns out the strange creature is wesen, hired by the owners of a boat rental. It was supposed to be an attraction for tourists. The attack comes to the attention of local media, and that’s how Renard, Nick and Hank see the photo of the monster – on TV. They immediately know it has to be wesen. The local sheriff has also requested the team help him investigate the attack. Nick and Hank go to talk to the owners of the boat rental, Wayne and Oliver. While talking to Wayne, Nick sees that Oliver woges for a moment. So the two brothers are wesen…
Trubel pays a visit to the spice shop, and Monroe and Rosalee are obviously very happy to finally see her again. Trubel is there to tell them everything there is to know about Black Claw. Now Grimm 5×08 is getting interesting.
Nick and Hank find out that the brothers from the lake are deep in debt. Hank thinks they probably hired another wesen so they could earn some more money. First, they have to know what kind of wesen killed the man. Meanwhile, one of the brothers is starting to enjoy the situation a little too much – he asks the monster-wesen, named Logan, to kill again. And so he does. In the meantime, Monroe is able to identify the wesen for Nick and Hank.
Monroe and Rosalee also ask Nick if he will help Meisner, and whatever they are going to decide, they must stay together. Meanwhile, Renard is busy preparing a speech in which he declares he’s going to endorse Andrew Dixon for mayor of Portland.
The day after, Nick and Hank are called back to the lake because another attack happened. At the brothers’ store, Logan wants half of all the money earned thanks to the shop’s gadgets. That same night, while the brothers are trying to figure out a way to get rid of Logan, Trubel arrives at the shop looking for Logan. The brothers tell her that he is the one in charge and taking all the money after killing innocent people. Trubel reports her conversation with the brothers to Nick and Hank. Nick tells Trubel they can’t arrest Logan for the murders, and it’s clear what he wants her to do.
In the meantime, Wayne goes to see Logan to warn him that his brother Oliver has hired somebody to kill him when he shows up to collect the money. Wayne tells him to kill Oliver and then the assassin, but all of Wayne’s plans fall apart when Trubel kills Logan. Wayne, trying to run away from Trubel, Nick and Hank, jumps in the water, but he gets shot by the people who were there looking for the monster in the lake. His brother is arrested, and so Nick and Hank have a story to tell the sheriff – covering up the wesen part of it, of course.
