ABC Family’s hit drama series The Fosters returns tonight with the highly anticipated third season. Season 3 of The Fosters will kick off following a shocking cliffhanger, big changes in the family, and of course, new territory for Jonnor!
We spoke to Gavin Macintosh about what fans and viewers can expect from everyone’s favorite new couple Connor and Jude. He teased that there may be some bumps in the road so read on to find out all the scoop from tonight’s The Fosters season 3 premiere!

Season 2 ended with quite a cliffhanger for the fans but also a big step forward for Jonnor as a couple. Can you preview a little of what’s next for them when The Fosters Season 3 kicks off?
Yeah, of course! As soon as we kick off, Jude doesn’t want to come out as gay publicly and… Connor stands up for him at one point. That’s something to look forward to.
Seeing as this is kind of new territory for the both of them, will things be smooth sailing for a little while or would you say there are a few bumps in the road?
I’m sure there’s a bump with Jude ya know, with them not wanting the same things but after that…they’ve had so many problems in the past and ups and downs and maybe they can plateau for awhile and be together happily.
How about Connor’s relationship with his father? We saw in the finale that that might be improving a little. Will that be evolving?
Hopefully. I honestly don’t know too much about that. We haven’t covered so much of that. It’s one of my biggest wishes for where the show ends up going that Connor’s dad accepts their relationship together and gives them his full support.
How does it feel to, right now, be a part of history featuring the youngest same-sex kiss on television?
It feels great. Especially with The Fosters being such a groundbreaking show and we’re definitely making TV history. I’m lucky enough that this is my first major role. I’m lucky that it’s such a different role. There’s no other show like The Fosters, so I’m grateful to be part of it.
The reaction and support on social media for you two has just been incredible. What do you enjoy most about interacting with the fans on Twitter?
I love interacting with my fans. They’re all so great, honestly. All The Fosters fans are amazing and I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them. I wouldn’t be in this interview. They are the ones that make actors who they are. They’ve been supporting me since the beginning and I’m really grateful for that.
What are you most excited for them to see when The Fosters season 3 returns? Are there any more surprises along the way?
Hmmm, I can’t tell you guys any of the surprises. That would kind of ruin the show! But definitely stay tuned! This season is gonna be groundbreaking.
