Read on for our exclusive interview with Isaak Presley.
What inspired you to get into acting? Was there anyone who influenced you?
Isaak Presley: My dad. My dad was in the entertainment industry from a young age so I was born into it. All of his friends were entertainers in some aspect, so it’s all I’ve ever known really. I have a few separate hobbies that I’ve acquired on my own, but entertaining has always been first nature to me. My dad’s a huge inspiration to me. He’s incredibly talented, and a music producer mainly, but his list of abilities goes on for ages. He can do anything in the arts. So yeah, my dad’s definitely my biggest inspiration.
Is there anyone you would love to work with someday, if you could pick anyone?
I would love to work with Ryan Reynolds. He’s honestly such an inspiration. He’s a good-looking guy who’s made it as a multi-genre actor, and he’s incredible at it; he’s hilarious, can do some pretty cool stuff with swords in real life, and can do just about anything with a straight face. But along with Ryan, I’d love to work with Robert Downey Jr. He’s another big inspiration. He was a child actor and has managed to sustain a very long and strong career. I know I could learn a lot from him and have a fun time while doing it.
Can you talk a little about your role on Stuck in the Middle and what attracted you to it?
In Stuck in the Middle, I play Ethan Diaz, the oldest boy in an exceptionally large family. My character is a bit all over the place. Sometimes smart and wise, sometimes goofy and klutzy, and sometimes creative and funny. He’s Harley’s best friend in the family, and he’s always there to execute whatever crazy plan she has, or comfort her when she needs it… most of the time. 😉 I was mainly attracted to the role because of the concept of the show. I liked that the show was being done in a completely different way. It’s shot in single-cam, which means it’s shot different than the typical Disney show, which is usually filmed in what they call multi-cam. I liked that it didn’t have laugh tracks, and most of all how it was about a Latin family. Being half Cuban, I find it super important that there’s a show that everyone can relate to. It’ll hit a little closer to home for some Latinos. I love the messages Stuck in the Middle sends, and I think best of all, I’ve gotten a second family out of it.
Fans will also recognize you as Popko from the latest season of Netflix’s Fuller House. What are some of your favorite memories of filming with the cast?
First off, I’m so incredibly grateful to be on Fuller House. It’s one of my favorite shows I’ve ever shot, and I have never not had a good time on that set. My favorite memory was when they had the whole original cast on the show, and there was a moment when everyone was standing on set filming, and John, Bob, and Dave walked out into set and the entire audience erupted into applause. It was really surreal. It was a reminder of how long this show has been having an impact on people, and I’m lucky enough to be a part of that.
How has the fan support been for you so far? Do you enjoy interacting with your fans on social media?
The support has been crazy good. Every time I post a picture on Instagram, my favorite thing to do is read every single comment and like all the positive ones. Recently, I’ve been trying to like and respond to my comments on Instagram. I love interacting with my IPT. That’s what I call my supporters – it stands for the Isaak Presley Team. Because after all, they’re not my fans, they’re my team. I couldn’t do what I do without the IPT, and I think nothing is more important than taking time to give back in whatever way I can to them. I’m trying to be more active on my YouTube channel, so that they can have a more personal connection with me. Every time I get stopped in the street, it makes my day. It’s so cool to see how happy I can make someone.
Fuller House, to me, is the ultimate binge-watch show. What are some of your favorite series to settle in and binge-watch?
I personally am a huge superhero fan. I’ve been reading comics since I could read, and there’s not one superhero I don’t know about or haven’t heard of. I recently binged all of Netflix’s superhero shows: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. That was a really fun few weeks. I also rewatched all of the previous seasons of Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow, which were on The CW a little before that. But on another genre, YouTube Red has a great series called Mind Field by VSauce, and it’s truly incredible and educational. I love it!
As an extremely talented musician, can you share what it is that you love most about music?
It’s an escape. Music is a way for me to reboot. I love to write most of all, so nothing is more precious to me than just sitting down with my guitar and writing a song, or writing poems while I pluck at the strings. It could be anything – as long as I have my music, I’m content and peaceful. I also love to sing to people and see how happy they get. I believe music is truly a universal love. The genres and the tastes may be different, but everyone loves music, and I find that incredible.
Do you have any plans to release more music in the future?
Oh, for sure. I’m writing and working on a few songs right now. More info on release dates and stuff to come! But oh yeah, music hasn’t even started yet. There’s an avalanche of it coming.
What else are you working on? What can your fans look forward to from you next?
As I write this, I’m currently in Louisiana shooting my first feature film. It’s called One Nation Under God. It’s about a boy and his struggles to find a place for faith and belief in a school system that’s intolerant to it, all while a political figure running for president goes through the same issues, but to a larger scale. I can’t wait for everyone to see it. Back to a TV note, I’ll be returning to shoot a couple more episodes of Fuller House in May, and I’m extremely excited for that. And of course just working on music and my YouTube channel.
Thanks so much to Isaak Presley for taking the time to answer some questions for us! We really appreciate it.
