You may recognize Loïc Nottet as the young singer who went viral for belting out a version of Sia’s Chandelier that absolutely pierced the soul. From there, he has gone on to become an international star. After bringing Belgium back to the top 5 of Eurovision for the first time in 12 years, competing on The Voice Belgique and winning the French version of Dancing with the Stars (Danse avec les Stars), Loïc went on to top the charts with his debut album Selfocracy.
Now, at a time when the world needs it most, Loïc is back with his sophomore album Sillygomania. I believe his success worldwide is long overdue. I remember feeling so many emotions when I first heard the humble, yet powerful, singer/songwriter on YouTube years ago. It’s time for America to take a listen.
Sillygomania
Sillygomania sees Loïc Nottet stepping out of his comfort zone. His first French-language single, “Mr/MME” gives fans a look within. “Mr/MME” takes listeners on a journey through emotional feelings ranging from anxiety, doubt, and mental health. A truly heartbreaking song full of passion that culminates in a message of hope, visible throughout the music video in his soft, caring eyes.
It is here where I realize what a talent Loïc is. Because the transition from such an emotional ballad to a song that is its polar opposite, is wonderful. “Heartbreaker” exudes total confidence. It is a fun, sexy, happy, dance single that is a departure from the powerful ballads Loïc may be known for.
When I first heard “Heartbreaker”, I was instantly hooked. I must have listened to this song 100 times over that first week until my Spotify and YouTube apps were probably sick of me hitting repeat. This is a song that is great fun to listen and sing along to. It will have you dancing in no time. Loïc Nottet has always been an amazing dancer, with moves so effortless it appears to happen as if by magic. The music video for “Heartbreaker” will certainly have you trying to emulate his moves, but if you’re me, you will injure several body parts if you try.
Sillygomania is an album that is perfectly balanced. For every song capable of ripping your heart out and making you feel all the feels, there is another that makes you want to sing and dance. It’s an album putting you in touch with all of your emotions. If you need a good cry, if you need to dance, if you need a good moment of belting out high notes into the darkness, this album is it.
I will always root for a fellow Harry Potter fan. Sometimes magic truly exists, and I feel it when I listen. It’s time for Loïc Nottet to take America by storm and I cannot wait.
