Read on for our exclusive interview with Wesam Keesh below:
What motivated you to initially pursue acting as your career?
It was my first or second year at college when I had this golden moment during one of my acting classes and I realized, this was my path. This is what I want my career to be. It was a gut feeling.
Was there anyone who influenced or inspired you?
My parents are some of the hardest working, good-hearted, and strong willed people I know. I definitely think of them a lot to inspire me.
Can you tell us about your role in the series For The People?
I play Jay, a public defender in NYC. He fights the good fight and believes that everyone deserves a proper defense. In the beginning he was way too trusting of his clients but through some hard learned lessons he’s developing his intuition and wisdom at [a] steady pace.
Did you do anything special to prepare for your role?
Yeah, I actually shadowed a real public defender here in L.A. and also got to talk to the real southern district of New York public defenders. Getting to talk with real lawyers helped incredibly in shedding more insight on the career path and the people who choose this difficult and under-thanked profession.
Would you say you are similar to your character at all?
Yeah, we both have great hair. And super charming. And Handsome. Especially the handsome part.
The subject matter of For The People can be considered very timely and relevant. Is it important to you to shed light on certain issues that the episodes are able to showcase?
Yes, of course. That for me is the main goal for acting. To be able to entertain and enlighten people in a positive way that creates positive discussion and debate. I’m very blessed.
It was recently announced that For The People would be airing its series finale. How has the experience been working alongside the cast?
Best cast, crew, and production company ever. Seriously. Such talented, good-hearted, humble, hard working, and amazing creatives all across the board. And our fearless leader Paul Davies, the creator, has designed these characters [and] stories that will make people question their core beliefs. What more can you ask for?
What can you tease about what viewers can expect or look forward to from the series finale episode?
Jay gets angry. Real angry. It’s a side of Jay that rarely comes out.
What do you hope viewers take away from the series as a whole once it concludes?
Be open and respectful to people you disagree with. It’s the only way for all of us as [a] country and humans to move forward in the right direction.
Can you talk a little about your radio show “Wesam’s World” and what fans can look forward to from you next?
My radio show “Wesam’s World” airs on Idobi radio Thursdays at 3pmPST/6pmEST. I bring on amazing artists, creatives, athletes, and talk about their struggles, life experiences, conspiracy theories, silly billy times and more. We also have a dedicated listener question section where fans can ask me about advice on relationship problems to career choices to family drama. The show is also available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Youtube.
