“What’s past is prologue”
See what happens in the 100th episode of Grimm!
Read on for our recap of Grimm 5×12, “Into the Schwarzwald.”
After falling down the hole that swallowed them, Nick and Monroe find themselves in some kind of a cave at the beginning of Grimm 5×12. Monroe immediately realizes they have found the church they were looking for, or more accurately, they are among the ruins of what once had been a church.
Meanwhile, in Portland, Dixon has been shot by Marwan, making him the first casualty of Grimm 5×12. Hank figures out the building from where the mayoral candidate was shot, and runs looking for him with Wu. Marwan manages to escape from the roof, but Eve is waiting for him. She causes him to be hit by a biker, and while the biker is calling for help, she exhales some kind of grey smoke into his mouth.
Back in the Black Forest, Monroe and Nick finally find something: a bronze box, closed with seven locks. They try to open it with the keys they have, but fail because two keys are missing, so they decide to bring the box to Portland, and try with picklocks. First though, they have to find the way out…
Dixon dies, unfortunately. Rosalee and Adalind are together at the spice shop when a customer tells them the bad news. Then, another customer comes in, and Rosalee recognizes him immediately. It’s Tony, her former friend from Seattle who has been sending her the letters. He needs money and he wants it immediately. He threatens Rosalee, and Adalind intervenes. When Tony tries to hit her, something happens – Adalind has still powers in her, and she breaks all of his fingers without even touching him. Tony runs away. Adalind is terrified because she doesn’t want her powers back and she’s afraid Nick won’t want her that way. Rosalee says she will try to find a way to get rid of the powers Adalind has left, but urges Adalind to tell Nick immediately, as it will be worse if he finds out by himself.
Nick and Monroe manage to find a way out from the church, but the priest and his men are still looking for them. One of the men bites Monroe’s arm, but they manage to escape.
Meanwhile, Eve is back at the Hadrian’s Wall, and she’s got Marwan’s phone with her. She will make a copy of his SIM card and then return the phone back to him while he’s still unconscious at the hospital. When Marwan wakes up, he calls Lucien for him to pick him up, and Lucien tells him he’ll be there in a few. Then, Lucien calls the police and tells them that Marwan is at the hospital. Renard decides to get there with Hank and Wu.
At the Hadrian’s Wall, they are tracking the phone call from Marwan to Lucien, and they zeroing in on his movements thanks to his phone. When Renard arrives at the hospital with Wu and Hank, Marwan tries to run away, but Renard attacks him and kills him. There’s a lot of death in Grimm 5×12! Once at the precinct, Renard is looking at the tape of the moment Dixon was shot. He sees that his collaborator, the woman he slept with, is talking into the phone and looking up to the building from which Dixon was shot. While leaving the precinct, Renard is approached by Meisner, who tells him he shouldn’t have killed Marwan as they could have gotten more info from him alive. Renard tells Meisner he should have told him about their plans, and that he got a tip from someone who told them Marwan was at the hospital. Meisner tells him that obviously that was the Black Claw setting them up, making sure Marwan would not be able to talk.
Renard meets with his lover at home, and he realizes she’s Black Claw. She makes him meet with Lucien later, and they tell him the plan was to kill Dixon and make Renard – the most powerful man in Portland – the mayor.
Back at the spice shop, after Adalind has already left, Nick and Monroe come back with the box they found in the Black Forest. They try to open it with Rosalee, Wu and Hank, but it’s not opening. They realize that it was closed by Grimms, so a Grimm must have the power in him to open it. Nick manages to open the box using his blood to unlock it. Inside the box (drumroll) there’s a… stick. After everyone has expressed their disappointment (voicing the viewers’ as well!), Wu notices something is written on the cloth used to envelop the stick. They can’t understand the language it is written in, so they ask Monroe, but he is not feeling well. The bite he has on his arm looks pretty bad now, and it seems he has blood poisoning. Before they can take him to a hospital, the bite disappears. It looks like it has healed completely. They are very confused until they realize Nick touched Monroe while he still had the stick in his hand. A simple touch of that stick could cure Monroe completely. We have found out its power…
