“It is not down on any map;
true places never are.”
Nick and Monroe fly to Germany to try to finally uncover the secret of the seven keys, while Hank and Wu have to deal with Black Claw in Portland.
Read on for our recap of Grimm 5×11, “Key Move.”
Grimm 5×11, “Key Move,” begins right where we were left: Nick and his friends were finally able to locate the treasure hidden by the seven Grimms’ knights in the Black Forest. They still don’t know what the treasure is, and they still need to find out where exactly they need to look. Rosalee suggests that a clue might be hidden in the map they were able to form thanks to the keys, or the clue is in one of the keys they still don’t have.
Meanwhile, Renard gives the mayor candidate’s staff member (who also happens to be his lover) reports of Dixon’s opponent in the campaign – Steven Gallagher – being involved in drugs. Once the public knows about Gallagher’s illicit activities, Dixon will certainly have more of a chance of winning.
Our friends, still looking at the map they just uncovered, realize something: There were seven Grimms’ knights who took care of hiding the treasure, and on the map, there are seven churches all in the same area. Nick realizes that all the churches they are looking at on the map have steeples, except for one that has a cross. Monroe notices it is too short to be a cross, so could it be an “X”? Does this “X” mark the spot?
Nick decides he has to go the Black Forest and find out if the treasure is really hidden inside the church with the “X” on the map. Monroe will go with him since he knows German. But as Trubel points out, the Black Claw knows their names and will know where they are going. They will have to travel under false names.
Nick has to tell Adalind about his plan before leaving. Although she’s not too happy about it, she understands that Nick has to pursue this lead. But she’s not letting him go without first telling him she loves him. Nick will only admit later to Monroe that he loves her too.
Trubel has bad news for Nick. She tells him about Marwan Hanano, a wesen working for the Black Claw. Meisner wants the police to find him and take care of the situation, so Nick informs Renard. Hank and Wu will take care of it because Nick is about to leave for the Black Forest with Monroe. Hanano is spotted by the police near the area where Andrew Dixon is supposed to talk to the public. Is Dixon the target?
Hanano meets with Lucien, the Black Claw’s leader. Lucien tells him he needs to act immediately, even if police are looking for him. He gives him a photo: It’s Renard.
Nick and Monroe land in Germany, and they are soon headed to the Black Forest in Wolfach. They find the church they were looking for and the first person they meet inside, the sacristan, is wesen. As he sees Nick, he runs away scared of the Grimm. That’s a start…
After this fist encounter, Nick and Monroe are greeted by a priest who welcomes them to Saint Laurentius church, built in 1594. Not old enough for it to hide the Grimm treasure, but the priest says there are no older churches in the area. Nick and Monroe realize that they have made a mistake interpreting the map. The “X” was not the church, but a spot further away from Wolfach. While Monroe and Nick leave Saint Laurentius for their next destination, the priest looks at them leaving, none too happy about their visit, and we see he’s wesen too. Shortly after, he sends a group of men to go and find the Grimm, and kill him.
Back in Portland, Renard attends Dixon’s political meeting, and we see Hanano approaching the area, disguised. Hank and Wu realize Hanano might be interested in the event and try to warn their captain, but Renard’s phone goes to voicemail. The Hadrian’s Wall manages to track down Hanano’s location as Renard takes the stage and begins his speech in favor of Dixon. Hanano has a rifle pointed right at his direction – but he shoots not Renard, but Dixon.
In the Black Forest, Monroe and Nick seem to have found the “X” spot. They come across a foundation stone where something was definitely once built and start to shovel, when suddenly the ground collapses under their feet. They disappear – swallowed up!
By the end of Grimm 5×11, the priest and his men are close to catching up with them. What’s going to happen to them? We will find out next week, in episode 100!
