“Awake, arise, or be forever fall’n.”
A dramatic turn of events brings Nick face to face with his new enemies, and with a new mystery.
Read on for our recap of the shocking Grimm 5×06, “Wesen Nacht.”
Trubel wakes up after a… troubled night. (Her first night at Nick’s after she was saved from the wesen who wanted to take her away from the hospital.) She wakes up to see Kelly for the first time. She’s sore, but happy to be finally with Nick again – and he’s happy to be finally able to get some answers from her.
Trubel explains that the group she is “working” for needs the abilities of people like her and Nick. They are called the H.W. (Hadrian’s Wall) and they are a part of the government, a very secret part fighting a new and dangerous war against wesen. In Grimm 5×06, we learn that groups of wesen are forming not just in the U.S., but everywhere, Trubel says. It’s a revolution. The H.W. has factions all over the world, with other grimms like Trubel and Nick fighting with them. Trubel was sent in different parts of the world to fight and kill wesen, and the H.W. has been watching Nick very closely for a long time. They also know that Adalind used to be an Hexenbiest, and they know about Kelly too, although Trubel says they have no interest in the child at all, much to Adalind’s relief.
While Adalind and Trubel are alone, they talk about the new arrangement between Nick and Adalind. Trubel wants to know if she is in love with Nick, and Adalind can’t really say a definite no. Trubel reveals to Adalind that her intention was to kill Juliette in any case, even if Nick wasn’t in danger because of her.
Captain Renard, in the meantime, is busy endorsing the candidate for mayor in Portland, Andrew Dixon.
Nick and Hank are called by Wu to investigate what appears to be a gang-related rampage in three different neighborhoods where shops were hit, car windows broken, one shop owner murdered, one badly beaten-up, one missing. One look at the dead shop owner’s body though, and Nick and company know it’s wesen-related. Their thoughts are reinforced by what Wu has found inside one of the shops that was hit: four lines, like the ones that were left outside the building where Chavez died, otherwise known as the symbol of the wesen’s revolution.
We find out that the missing shop owner, Xavier, is familiar to Monroe and Rosalee, while Bud knew the shop owner who was killed. Poor Xavier is the hands of the wesen who have kidnapped him, and when they show him a photo of Monroe, asking if he knows him, he denies everything.
Wu, Nick and Hank find out that similar attacks happened in Seattle and Eugene as well.
Moneroe and Rosalee call Nick and they confirm his thoughts: all the shop owners were wesen.
Wu goes back to the bakery that was attacked, and while he’s inside, the shop owner reappears, beaten-up but alive. When Nick questions him, he says that he couldn’t recognize his captors, and that he hadn’t seen the four lines mark before. Nick knows he’s scared and convinces him to look at some photos. Xavier recognizes the face of a woman whose name is Billie Trump. Nick decides to tell Captain Renard what he knows about this wesen war, and also about Chavez’s death.
Billie Trump is now in police custody, but she has no intention to cooperate until she finds out Nick is a Grimm. She decides to reveal the identity of the wesen boss, whose name is Dallas Cruz. She also reveals where they usually meet. Rosalee recognizes Cruz – he’s someone she used to know.
Nick, Hank, Wu and Captain Renard head to the meeting place with Billie. Monroe is coming too, while Rosalee decides to stay with Xavier, who hasn’t still said anything about the wesen who kidnapped him.
Meisner sees what happened to the bakery and the other shops, recognizes the four lines mark, and decides to play his ace card, so it seems.
After some time with Rosalee, Xavier gives up and tells her everything. It was all a setup. They made him recognize Billie as a trap to lead Nick and the others to the place where the wesen usually meet – and they especially wanted Monroe to be with them.
Rosalee calls Monroe immediately to tell him it’s a trap, but it’s too late. Nick, Hank, Monroe, Wu, and Renard are surrounded by the wesen. After a while though, it appears the wesen are gone. Nick decides to check out what happened, and he sees some wesen dead. Someone arrived to save them – Meisner’s ace card… Juliette!
