“Rats! They fought the dogs, and killed the cats…”
Trubel is back, while our friends have to deal with a legendary king.
Read on for our recap of Grimm 5×05, “The Rat King.”
After finding Trubel in bad shape at the end of the last episode, Nick brings her to the hospital. While waiting for news from the doctors, Nick takes a look at Trubel’s jacket. Inside, there is a fake passport and driving licences. On the passport, there are stamps from many different places around the world: Malta, Madrid, Dublin, London, Paris. There is also the same cellphone Nick took from Agent Chavez. Grimm 5×05 is starting to get mysterious.
Adalind, alone at home, receives a call from Meisner on the phone Nick took from Chavez. She is asked where Nick is and if “she” is alive. When Meisner realizes that it’s Adalind on the phone, he hangs up. Adalind calls Nick to tell him what has just happened.
Nick manages to exchange a few words with Trubel before a nurse arrives. When the nurse asks Trubel her name, she replies “Lauren Cole.”
When he’s back home, Nick calls Hank and asks him to check the license plate on the motorcycle used by Trubel to get to Nick’s. The motorcycle is registered to Lauren Cole. Nick tells Wu and Hank about Trubel and he asks them to check out Lauren Cole’s apartment.
Back at the hospital, the nurse who is taking care of Trubel comes in her room, wakes her up and woges in front of her. Then she dials a number to tell whoever is on the phone that she’s got her.
Wu tells Nick and Hank that he checked Lauren Cole’s place. It’s a real place, with mailbox and everything, but he couldn’t get inside her apartment – not without having to break in.
Nick tells Rosalee and Monroe about Trubel, and he tries to call the hospital for news, but the wesen-nurse tells him Trubel is still sleeping, while she is in fact awake in her room, asking for Nick. In the meantime, the doctor who is taking care of Trubel tells her that they have found swelling in her brain and that they will have to operate on her.
Later, Adalind lets Meisner inside her house. He thought Trubel was hidden there, but when he sees she’s not, he calls Nick to tell him she is in danger, that “they” will find her.
Nick runs to the hospital, where they tell him Trubel has been moved to intensive care. Meanwhile, the doctor and the wesen-nurse have a sedated Trubel with them. Meisner arrives to stop them, and Nick joins him. Nick manages to bring Trubel away from the hospital safely to his house.
Nick, Hank and Wu have to work on a new case. Two young men, Chester Avery and Robert Kyle, have been found dead. Nick assumes they weren’t killed where they were found, but they were dumped on Kyle’s truck and left in the middle of an isolated place.
Kyle’s girlfriend Selena tells Nick and Hank that the previous night Robert went to the dump with his friends. One is Chester, the other one Johnny, who wasn’t in the truck with the other two. Selena is wesen, and so were Robert and his friends. They are a kind of wesen that looks like a cat. Selena explains that they went to the dump to have some fun, chasing other wesen that look like rats. Later, Johnny appears at Selena’s house, scared and upset. He tells her that what killed Robert and Chester was huge and that the legend is true.
Talking to Rosalee and Monroe, Nick and Hank discover there is a legend about the Rat King, a giant kind of rat who is very strong and unstoppable. Monroe tells them that a Rat King is a combination of numerous rat-line wesen that join their bodies to become part of a greater whole. This happens when they feel threatened.
Selena and Johnny are taken by the group that killed Chester and Robert. It’s revenge, since Chester and Robert killed a rat-like wesen. Nick, Hank, Monroe and Rosalee go back to the dump looking for them. While they rescue Selena, Johnny is dead. They also come face to face with the Rat King, but at the end of Grimm 5×05, they manage to defeat him.
