A familiar face from a previous Season of American Horror Story comes back to take care of one of Elsa’s freaks.
Read on for our recap of the new episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show, “Orphans”.
The very first seconds of “Orphans” introduce us another death: Salty’s. Pepper is heartbroken, and Elsa wants to be by her side, despite Stanley telling her a network wants to see her. In the end, she lets him take care of Salty’s body, not knowing Stanley’s real intentions of using Salty’s head for the Freaks’ Museum.
While talking with Desiree about Pepper, Elsa tells her how she arrived in the US in 1936, and how she started her own Freak Show. She explains she found a lot of freaks, including Pepper, at orphanages. Pepper is Elsa’s first monster. To make her happy, Elsa brought to the camp Ma Petite and finally Salty, who became Pepper’s husband. They raised Ma Petite as their own daughter. Pepper has lost everyone she loved, the only relative she still has is the sister who left her at the orphanage.
Elsa brings Pepper to her sister, Rita, to leave her there.
But Rita has Pepper shut in an asylum (and not just one asylum… remember Season 2 of American Horror Story, and remember sister Mary Eunice?), with the charge of murder. Rita says to sister Eunice that Pepper has killed her (deformed) baby son, when actually, Rita’s husband killed the baby, because they both couldn’t bear to have a deformed baby.
Sister Eunice mistakes Pepper’s tears for remorse, and decides to help her, making her work in the asylum’s library, where she sees a magazine with Elsa on the cover.
Desiree presents her new boyfriend Angus to Maggie.
Maggie is deeply upset because Jimmy is in jail. She’s having too much drinks, and while talking with Desiree, she reveals her connection to Stanley, who she says is not a talent scout from Hollywood. She doesn’t reveal to Desiree what they have been doing with the freaks, but Desiree suspects something is going on.
Bette and Dot offer Maggie some money to get Jimmy a proper lawyer.
Stanley visits Jimmy in prison and tells him he knows a good lawyer that will help him, Donald Darrow. When Jimmy tells him he has no money, Stanley suggests Ethel’s estate, but Jimmy says they have no money. But Stanley has apparently found the solution to the problem.
Maggie decides to help Jimmy, and the other freaks, and save them from Stanley, so she talks about it to Desiree. She brings her to see the Freaks’ Museum, so she can be a witness to what Stanley is doing. Desiree and Maggie see Ma Petite and Salty in display, but also something Maggie didn’t expect… Jimmy’s hands. (Stanley’s solution to Jimmy’s money problem).
