The November 6, 2012. It’s the Election Day. Last time we saw our favorite news team was after the Genoa scandal and the channel owner Leona refusing their resignations telling them to get the audience’s trust back! What and who to trust now?
Especially as tonight, they have to deal with the election which is according to a scene during which Charlie is showing pictures of people all around the world is a big international event. So they can’t screw that one up. “It’s critically important that we not make any mistakes tonight. We all know why. Top to bottom, no mistakes. If you make a mistake, run out of the building as fast as you can, and keep running until you hit water. Then swim. Here we go!”
The new moto of the group is now “take care of facts only facts. Facts! Facts!” – something that reminds me a little of Charles Dickens.
For Sloan, this idea is shown through a story about a signed book. Running into Neal in the hallway she learns that her book was sold for $1,000 at an online auction to help the Sandy victims. Sloan proposed to sign a book but actually didn’t, so someone bought this book for $1,000 with a fake autograph. It makes her quite angry and she wants to find the person who paid for the book to stop the fraud. Meanwhile Mackenzie discovers that her Wikipedia page says that she was the president of the Oxford Union, but she went to Cambridge! Again Neal has to find a way to change it.
Mac is definitely taking the Genoa disaster harder than anyone else. She doesn’t seem herself anymore. She is waiting for Will to fire her because she thinks she deserves it mentioning that 6 years ago she wrecked his personal life and now she wrecked his professional one too. For her, Will is just a bomb that didn’t explode yet but will soon so she wants to know what to expect. “I want to know what the punishment is going to be this time.” Meanwhile Charlie is working his way to get Leona accepting their resignations even trying to convince Leona’s son Reese. But it doesn’t work and Rebecca is ready to defend them.
The problem is that none of them is ready to do their job perfectly, too scared to make mistakes even when the stories are true. Indeed, in the make-up room, Taylor – the woman who made Jim’s life on the Romney bus a hell and is now commenting the election night for ACN. – tells Maggie about Brody condemning Todd Akin on his comments about “legitimate” rape “very rarely” get pregnant because their bodies prevent them from doing so. Actually Brody said a little the same back in 90’s. Maggie remembers that Don knows Brody’s chief of staff because they take showers together “After tennis! In individual showers” Don explains. I’ve to say I didn’t like Maggie and Don together as a couple but as a professional duo they’re awesome.
So the shower Buddy calls back! He agrees to give the channel two exclusive stories with great sources if they don’t run the rape quote. Don and Maggie tell about it to Charlie, Mac and Will. Charlie is ok to do so only if it’s not about misconduct in the armed forces. Ironically the two stories are about the David Petraeus case. This leads Charlie to walk away and screams of anger.
A state Will seems to be ready to reach as he has a last conversation with Mac who is still pushing him to fire her. The conversation turns to be personal as Will reminds her he was a good boyfriend and she shows him the opposite by cheating on him. They disagree and fight and finally Will fires her, effective at the end of the broadcast.
To be continued next week in Election Night part 2….with I hope finally some explanations about Maggie’s damn hair changes!
