The Mentalist is back after a long hiatus with a new episode, called “Black Helicopters”.
The FBI team must investigate the death of Edith Firlock, a federal attorney. Her body was found on the Mexican border.
Edith was shot somewhere else, the body later dumped where she was later found. Examining the way she was dressed, Jane (Simon Baker) suggests that she was undercover.
Thanks to Jane, we find out that the victim was killed in Texas, the body dumped in Mexico using a tunnel that connects the borders.
The owner of the land in Texas, where the tunnel is located, admits that he found Edith’s body on his land. For fear of the cops, he moved the body.So Edith’s real destination was Gentry, in Texas.
Lisbon (Robin Tunney) finds out that the victim looked at some pictures of a Farmers’ market, in Gentry. Right after
she left for that location.
Lisbon is also busy trying to figure out who tapped the former CBI team’s phones, and killed Ardilles. She’s waiting for a judge to sign off a warrant to search a property that might reconduct to Ardilles’ killer. Jane suggest to ask J.J. La Roche for some help (Pruitt Taylor Vince), since he still owes Jane a favor.
Jane and Fisher (Emily Swallow) arrive to the Farmers’ market Edith visited before dying. Jane manages to talk with some of the farmers, and he’s invited to spend some time on their land, “Gadsden Grove”.
Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) talk with LaRoche, and as Jane suggested, he’s going to help them. He will secure a warrant and search the area that might reconduct to Ardilles’ killer.
Jane tells Lisbon he’s sure Edith went to Gentry to meet someone from the farm, and that someone killed her. And in fact, the killer is revealed to be Rachel, a woman who has been implicated with an eco-terrorism bombing on the Canadian border. Edith Firlock’s defense fund represented her until she skipped bail. Suddenly she appears after 10 years, to try to convince Rachel to turn herself in, and that’s why she was killed.
In Sacramento, LaRoche and Rigsby search the area, but a trap has been set beforehand by Ardilles’ killer, LaRoche is shot, and dies.
The Mentalist comes back with the former CBI team trying to understand who is bugging their phones, and why this person wants them to die. Unfortunately, LaRoche is this killer’s next victim.
Jane is also trying to bond with his new team, giving each of them a gift that makes them come back to when they were kids, clearly making them very happy. Abbott receives a robot called Voltron, Wylie a Tamagotchi and Fisher a wand. This gives us viewers a chance to see the new characters under a different light, more relaxed and friendly.
The Mentalist will be back with a new episode next Sunday, March 16.
