“Give a man a mask and
he will show you his true face.”
Will Adalind tell Nick about her powers coming back? And will Nick tell Adalind about what he brought back from Germany?
Read on for our recap of Grimm 5×13, “Silence of the Slams.”
Monroe’s wound was completely healed by a single touch of the stick Nick found in last week’s episode. In Grimm 5×13, Nick and his friends decide not to tell anyone about it – including Adalind. And Adalind doesn’t tell Nick about her powers coming back, but she asks him how he would react if she were to become an Hexenbiest again. He tells her that they would deal with it, but now she is different and they have a son together.
At the Hadrian’s Wall, Eve takes a look at the tape of Dixon’s shooting. She realizes that just a few seconds before the shot, Dixon’s collaborator and Renard’s lover, Rachel Wood, is talking on the phone and looking at the direction of the building from which Dixon was shot. In Grimm 5×13, Eve basically realizes what Renard already figured out at the end of last week’s episode.
Eve asks Renard why he wanted Dixon to be mayor, and who asked him to endorse Dixon. Renard answers that Dixon was a good man, and his team asked him to endorse him. With this, Eve leaves.
Meanwhile in Grimm 5×13, Nick, Hank and Wu have to work on a new case. A man, Patrick Dafonte, was found dead, and his face is missing. It looks like his face was removed while he was still alive. They find a toxin in his system, and Nick connects this aspect of the crime with an old case that involved wesen.
Nick and Hank ask for Rosalee and Monroe’s help, and they find out that Dafonte is wesen. Assuming the attacker is also wesen, Rosalee thinks this is a case of Xipe Totec, a god worshiped by Aztec warriors who was known to flay his victims and wear their skin to absorb their power. Warriors would create skin masks to help them gain strength during battle. Looks like someone is bringing back some old traditions in Grimm 5×13.
In the meantime, there’s another dead body to investigate, that of James Vasquez, a wrestler known as El Mayordomo.
Renard meets Rachel and tells her he hasn’t decided if he’s going to accept the Black Claw’s proposal to make him mayor, but Rachel has already a plan in motion. She tells him he will need a family to win the elections, and she knows about Diana and Adalind. While the two are talking, Eve is watching them…
Nick and Hank talk to Vasquez’s boss, who tells them he was recently defeated by a wrestler named Goyo, who looked unexpectedly strong and sported a new mask created by Benito. When Hank and Nick arrive at Benito’s mask shop, they hear people fighting inside. A powerful creature, a wesen, attacks them. Nick tries to take the mask off the man they think is Goyo, but they can’t – the mask has become one with his face, and they certainly can’t bring him to precinct while he still looks like a wesen. The only option, Benito tells them before dying, is to perform a ritual, the Ceremonia de Desgracias. With Monroe and Rosalee’s help, they are able to perform this ritual and take the mask off Goyo.
Meanwhile, Renard calls Adalind. He tells her that he knows a way to get back Diana.
