“No man chooses evil because it is evil;
he only mistakes it for happiness.”
Hank and Wu are on their own investigating this week’s mystery, while Nick has to help Eve face a terrible truth…
Read on for our recap of Grimm 6×08, “The Son Also Rises.”
During Grimm 6×06, Eve and Rosalee managed to unravel the mystery behind the drawings on the stick’s cloth. It appears they’re pointing to an event that should happen pretty close to the March equinox. Problem is, our friends still don’t know what this future event could possibly be, although research from Monroe suggests it could involve wesen coming from other planets.
Eve decides to stay at the spice shop to do some more research on the cloth, believing it’s not a good idea to go back to Nick’s loft. He needs his space with Adalind and the kids, so she asks Monroe and Rosalee if she can stay for a while.
Later that night, Eve decides to take a break from her research. She looks at her reflection in a mirror, but the skull with green eyes that we saw during last week’s episode suddenly emerges again. Scared, Eve breaks the mirror. After a few seconds, though, the mirror’s pieces come back together – like a puzzle. When Eve looks into it again, hand emerges, gripping her throat. Eve tries to fight, and while doing so, she woges into a Hexenbiest. Although she manages to free herself, she faints immediately afterward.
The next morning, Monroe and Rosalee arrive at the spice shop to find a still-unconscious Eve lying on the floor.
Meanwhile, Nick, Wu, and Hank have a new case. A biochemistry professor, Dr. Deirdre Hampton, has been found dead in her laboratory. They learn that the last phone call she made before dying was to another professor, Dr. Sanji Raju. Then, Nick receives a phone call from Monroe. Monroe and Rosalee are bringing Eve to the hospital, and Nick runs to meet them.
In the meantime, Renard is trying to figure out the meaning of Diana’s drawings. He doesn’t know about the stick or the cloth, and asks a friend in Russia to help decipher the symbols.
Nick meets Monroe and Rosalee at the hospital. When they mention the mirror lying next to Eve, Nick tells them what happened at his loft. Rosalee and Monroe go back to the spice shop to investigate, and lock up the mirror to prevent further incidents.
Back to the case highlighed in Grimm 6×08: It seems like Hank and Wu will have to handle it without Nick. They start with Dr. Raju, who answers Hank’s questions and appears to be innocent. Suspiciously, though, he claims he talked about work with Hampton during their last phone call, but said phone call lasted only 30 seconds.
Back at the precinct, Hank and Wu find out that Raju and Hampton were studying the regeneration of tissue. Wu makes an eerie discovery: Two sets of fingerprints belonging to two dead criminals were found at the crime scene. How could these have ended up at the lab where Hampton was killed? Moreover, both criminals were cremated. How does a cremated hand leave a fingerprint?
Further investigation leads Hank and Wu to discover that the bodies were not, in fact, cremated, but sold.
As Grimm 6×08 continues, Wu and Hank talk to Dr. Shelley, another colleague of the victim. He admits he paid a visit to her lab the night she was killed. Hank and Wu are not yet convinced that Hampton’s colleagues are telling the whole truth, and suspect they might be involved in selling the dead bodies. When interrogating another colleague of Hampton’s, Hank and Wu find out that Dr. Shelley’s son died in a car accident.
The next day, Hank and Wu have to deal with another death: Dr. Raju’s. All around him are documents he was trying to destroy, but they still manage to recover some files, including a video. We can see the doctors trying to resuscitate Shelley’s son, who has body parts from different bodies. Shelley manages to bring his son back to life, but the body parts attached to him are from different kinds of wesen. They created a monster.
At the precinct, Renard’s friend from Russia calls to say she managed to find out something about Diana’s drawings – and it’s not good news. She mentions an ancient prophecy that predicts something coming, and whoever created the symbols is directly connected to it.
Back with the case of the week, Hank and Wu manage to track down Shelley and his son. When the son tries to attack Hank, Shelley kills him, understanding that it isn’t his son anymore, just a monster.
At the hospital, Eve wakes up and recalls what happened to her. She tells Nick she has a feeling that something is starting, and they don’t have a lot of time before it happens.
