In addition to starring in Disney’s Walk the Prank, Bryce Gheisar also plays the young Ethan in A Dog’s Purpose, and has two more films coming out this year! We chatted with him about acting, pranking, traveling, and more. Read on for our interview with Bryce Gheisar.
First of all, what inspired you to get into acting? Are there any actors you particularly look up to?
Bryce Gheisar: I look up to many actors, but my favorites are Leonardo DiCaprio and Jim Carrey. One of them is very serious and one of them is very funny – I’ll let you figure out which is which! I’ve always loved performing, so when a friend invited me to an acting school and I tried acting, I immediately loved it.
Your Disney Channel show Walk the Prank looks like a lot of fun! What’s your favorite thing about being on the show?
I love pranking on the show. After a prank, I always get my daily dose of laughter. Also, my castmates are amazing to work with. On Walk the Prank, there is always something different each day.
When you think back to the pranks you’ve played on Walk the Prank, are there any that are particularly memorable for you?
One of the first pranks I did was the ghost bear prank. We had a babysitter come over and turned a normal house into a haunted house. At the very end, a ghost bear bursts through a wall, and the reactions of our babysitter running around scared were priceless! That one has always been in my top five.
If you could play a prank on anyone in the world (a family member, a friend, a celebrity…), who would you choose and why?
If I could play a prank on anyone, it would probably be my big brother Blake to get him back for all of the times he’s pranked me! He is always jumping out from around corners and scaring me!
You have three feature films coming out this year, which is very impressive! Wonder and Into the Who Knows will be out later in 2017, while A Dog’s Purpose is in theaters now. Tell us about the character you play in A Dog’s Purpose.
I play Ethan, a young boy with a big heart. Ethan and Bailey (Bailey is the name of my dog in the movie) go on many adventures together and have the time of our lives.
Now that you’ve experienced both, how does working on a movie compare to working on a TV show? Which do you prefer? What are the biggest similarities and differences?
I really enjoy them both! They both involve performing, and I love acting, so that’s great! On a TV show, you can play the same character for years! It really lets you dive into the role, and you also get to work with the same people, so you really get to know them. Movies are really intense and demanding. They only last three months, though, so you can play lots of different characters in a year – some sad, some angry, some with amazing imaginations. You don’t spend as long with your castmates and crew, but the time you do spend with them is amazing as you are usually on location and it’s all new for everybody!
You turn 13 later this year, and you already have an impressive filmography! What are your acting goals for the future? Do you plan to stick with acting for the long term, or are there other things you’d like to pursue?
One of my many goals is to earn a star on the Walk of Fame. That will require a lifetime of performing! I really enjoy acting and plan to be an actor for the rest of my life, [but] I really enjoy traveling and seeing new places too, which works out well with acting as some of my favorite movies have been shot in faraway places. I want to see those places! Two of my movies were shot in Canada last year, and it was so interesting to live and work there for a while. I know living and working in other countries further away would be interesting too!
Thanks to Bryce Gheisar for chatting with us! Keep up with him on Twitter and Instagram, and catch him in Walk the Prank (airing on the Disney Channel and Disney XD) and A Dog’s Purpose, currently in theaters.
