A misleading promo made for a disappointing episode of Pretty Little Liars. Hanna begins to have an identity crisis and Spencer begins to question those around her.
Read on for our recap of Pretty Little Liars 5×03: “Surfing The Aftershocks” below:
Alison deals with the shocking events from last week with no one to lean on. The girls suspect her brother and her father is a complete mystery. Is Alison alone? She wasn’t a focal point in tonight’s episode. She appeared frightened of a painting at a funeral home and visited Ezra to ask for any additional information he may know that will help keep her alive. What else is Alison hiding?
Speaking of Ezra, the girls worry that Mona and Ezra won’t help keep Alison’s bogus story straight. They convince Aria to pay him a visit so they can be reassured he’ll back them up if ever the time comes. He has some scruff but he’s otherwise looking good. A bullet will not make me forgive the way his character was wasted but, what are you gonna do? Aria takes a chance and tells Ezra the truth about Shana and all he wants to know is how he can help her.
“He’s too romantic for his own good.” No.
In boring news that nobody cares about, Chloe Bridges guest stars as a new member of the swim team who wants advice from Emily. Paige desperately wants Emily’s forgiveness but it’s not happening. Will you miss that couple?
The girls believe that Jason killed his mother and Spencer is the only one not buying it. Emily and Hanna take it upon themselves to visit the creepy apartment again and basically learn that Jason was indeed drying out. He has an alibi. So then, who was Mrs. Dilaurentis protecting?
After getting mistaken for Alison, Hanna begins to have an identity crisis. How did she get to be this way? How did she become a Queen Bee? She has flashbacks to Mona helping to make her over and turn her into the new Alison. I just. I can’t even handle this weird CGI’d double chin that the production has photoshopped onto Ashley Benson’s face. It’s jiggling on its own!
Now, onto the Hastings. The most interesting part of the night. They sure are an interesting family. Jason warns Spencer that “their father”, AKA Mr. Hastings is not to be trusted. Red Herring! But I will enjoy all the extra screentime of Nolan North and Drew Van Acker that this show gives me.
Melissa thinks Spencer should have left Alison where she was and they should all stay away from her now. Spencer’s dad wants to sell the house because:
“Anything that gets the police to not look at this house is a good thing. For all of us.”
All over a mysterious email. Melissa and Daddy Hastings are not impressed and tear up the note. Melissa wants to tell Spencer the big secret the two of them are keeping and Mr. Hastings stops her. ARGH! I want to know! Did Melissa kill someone? Did MRS. Hastings??
