We take a listen to a young singer and songwriter from Brooklyn who has found herself in her music. Christina Rubino blends an Americana/Acoustic sound with heartfelt lyrics in her recent release. Consisting of ten tracks, “A(Live) from the Scrapheap” effectively tells a story that can only be told properly through music. Christina Rubino attempts to bare her soul with this release and we sat down to take a listen.
The first track we took a listen to on the album was “The Gateway”. This first song immdiately features the acoustic guitar and the rustic harmonica sound we mentioned before. It immediately takes me back to a sound that was very prominent in the 90s. When bands like Blues Traveler were all the rage, this type of sound was very popular, and I always loved it.
The second track, “Pending The Last Soul”, is a slower acoustic song. Again featuring the harmonica, this song is a stand out because of the raw and emotional vocals that beautifully combine with the heartfelt lyrics. This is a song that you have to listen to for yourself:
Finally, we hit play on “Nothing To Gain”. I think the vocals are strongest on this track. They’re beautiful and sincere and keep the listener fixated on the song. The lyrics are once again sentimental and moving. The blend of vocals on “Nothing To Gain” result in wonderful and pleasant harmonies that make this song our favorite so far.
Christina said, “I swore most of these songs would never see the light of day. They were too personal, too embarrassing. It was difficult to even play them in front of my producer. It was only the constant nagging from my conscience and the unrelenting feeling that I must do this which led me to the decision to continue recording after Francine left. She was very pivotal to my journey with this album – had she not pushed me to start playing again and begged me to track some of those songs, they undoubtedly would still be in a drawer somewhere hidden.”
We are so glad that she did decide to release and record these songs because the result is an album we think you guys should take a listen to.
