Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) has gone into labor. Pretty soon, a new baby will be in Storybrooke and it’s up to the town to keep Zelena (Rebecca Mader) as far away as possible. Zelena is causing trouble immediately. She attempts to drown Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and forces Emma (Jennifer Morrison) to give him mouth to mouth to suck out all her powers. Right off the bat, the good guys aren’t doing so hot.
Read on for our recap of episode 3×20 of Once Upon A Time: “Kansas“:
In a series of flashbacks, we see Glinda (Sunny Mabrey), the Good Witch, offering Zelena the chance to change her destiny. She can choose to be innocent and a good person and join Glinda and her witch sisters. Glinda gives her a pendant that will harness all her magic and make her more powerful and with all of this happiness, the green skin on Zelena disappears.
Her good mood doesn’t last long when a cyclone brings Dorothy Gale to Oz. Zelena is not happy to see her. She worries someone even more innocent than she will take her place in her new circle. Zelena threatens Dorothy with some of her magic fireballs and Dorothy, being the only person with any logic on this show, throws water at her. You know the story. Zelena begins to melt. This is hilarious. But she’s not gone for good. After sending Dorothy and her slippers home, Zelena banishes Glinda to the Enchanted Forest and continues her quest to change the past.
Back in Storybrooke, Snow has given birth to a healthy baby boy. She enjoys this for about two seconds before Zelena strolls in and snatches the baby away. Snow’s heartbreak! She has the worst luck with these things.
Now that Emma has no powers, the gang wonders if Regina (Lana Parilla) has enough light magic in her to defeat Zelena. With no water involved, Regina harnesses all the good inside of her to take down Zelena and her ugly green necklace. Rumple (Robert Carlyle) is thrilled to have the opportunity to kill Zelena once and for all but Regina stops him. She says heroes aren’t murderers. She chooses to imprison Zelena instead and give her a second chance. Ugh.
Belle (Emilie de Ravin) retrieves the dagger and gives it Rumple. Yada yada yada she believes in him. Happy to put all this behind him, Rumple proposes to her. Yay! A magical wedding is on the way!
Twist! Belle doesn’t have the real dagger. Rumple does. And he’s thrilled to have full control of himself again so that he may avenge Neal’s death. And he does so. He corners Zelena in her cell and stabs her. She turns to stone, breaks, and turns to dust. It’s extremely satisfying.
But this satisfaction only lasts for a few moments before some more of that nasty green smoke appears and some magical stuff starts to go down. How will the season end?
