If Person of Interest decides to go out for an Emmy award, this is the episode they should send in. Everyone was on top of their game tonight and it made for an awesome viewing experience.
Read on for our recap of season 3 episode 10 of Person of Interest: “The Devil’s Share“.
The episode starts off with a gut-wrenching montage of John, dying and bloody in a hospital bed while the others attend Carter’s (Taraji P. Henson) funeral. All to “Hurt” by Johnny Cash. This was very well done. I’m gonna miss Carter’s character so much.
As for John? Even though he’s not well, he doesn’t stay in that bed for long. The Machine brings up Simmons’ number and the hunt for him is on. Knowing he won’t be in town for very long, Shaw and John are doing everything in their power to find Alonzo for the information. Unfortunately, John’s grief has him not thinking very clearly. He’s breaking legs, he’s running people over, dropping them off of buildings, and as Fusco puts it, acting tall, dark, and deranged. All while battling his life threatening injuries.
Worried at what he may do, Finch has no choice but to give in when Root offers her help. As this new team searches for their friend, we learn a little more about them through a series of flashbacks. Harold is in a wheelchair and in grief counseling shortly after the ferry explosion. He blames himself and is having trouble dealing with it. In Shaw’s flashback, we see she’s a doctor working in a hospital and is told she won’t make it in this career because of her lack of emotions. The man speaking with her alludes that she knows her diagnosis and she never should have been allowed in the program in the first place. I wonder what it was. They don’t say. Lionel is revealed to be in therapy for alcohol abuse after his first kill. However, it is revealed that he shot the guy when he was unarmed as revenge.
Even with Root’s help, nothing will stop John from getting to Alonzo. After taking out half the building, he finds his man and lets him know that he will kill him. And he wants to make him suffer. Fantastic acting by Jim Caviezel here. And I’m not just saying that because the stubble is a good look for him.
Finch shows up to try and stop him from doing what he knows Carter would not have wanted. John attempts to pull the trigger but he’s losing too much blood and the gun won’t fire. They take him to the hospital and Alonzo is taken into custody. Seeing the info on Simmons, Fusco goes to finish the job. With no gun in hand, Lionel says he wants to repay the favor. Unfortunately, he doesn’t torture him enough for my taste. Just a one handed fist fight and a great speech. Instead of killing him, Fusco slaps the cuffs on him. I’m in a rage.
But a twist is coming. This show is becoming famous for them and I love it. Simmons wakes up in his hospital bed to a visitor. It’s Elias! “I don’t think Carter liked me. But I liked her very much. I consider it my responsibility to fix the problem that is you. And I’m going to watch.” In comes Scarface to finish Simmons once and for all!
YES!
With Simmons out of the picture, and Root a free but loyal ally, what is the larger picture they need to prepare for? Who else will they need to fight?
