The next day, Mindy receives a call from Cliff Gilbert–Morgan has hired him to sue the practice for sexual harassment. Danny and Jeremy are appalled that Mindy tried to coerce Morgan into sex, but a heartbroken Mindy seems petulant about her involvement. Morgan wants $200,000 in retribution, but agrees to forgo the payment if Mindy takes him on a date. After much arguing, Mindy agrees. “If you let me have heartache days I wouldn’t be in this situation,” she whines.
Back at her apartment, Mindy’s barricaded herself in her closet while Danny, Jeremy, and Peter try to convince her to go on the date. Peter uses his bro-charm (and a pink g-string turned handkerchief) to make Mindy feel better. Eventually, the guys convince her to get out of the apartment and show Morgan a good time (but without her beloved Fat Steps calorie-burning sneakers).
At dinner, Mindy rudely ignores Morgan by texting, but he reminds her that they’re supposed to be on a date. She apologizes, and listens in one of Morgan’s trademark too-weird-to-be-true stories. When the dinner is ostensibly over, Morgan stops Mindy from leaving, telling her that a date is supposed to be dinner “and something else.”
Back in the hospital, Danny pointedly ignores Peter while responding to a page for his patient’s water birth, and Peter volunteers as a third for the delivery, offering himself up as the general “office bitch” who will do things the other doctors don’t care to. Danny files this away for future reference.
Morgan takes Mindy to his favorite place, an abandoned quarry where he goes to yells his thoughts over the edge. On her turn, Mindy yells, “Casey I miss you. I hate this feeling,” and Morgan reminds Mindy that she can’t force herself to forget a breakup. Mindy throws her photo in the quarry then thanks Morgan for the date with a friendly kiss. “Did you bring protection?” asks Morgan, perfectly ruining the sweet moment.
The next day in the elevator, a cleaned-up Mindy banters with Cliff Gilbert, and Morgan silently celebrates his magic working again.
Final notes: An episode featuring Morgan front and center is always one to look forward to. But it’s somewhat obvious that Glenn Howerton (again, another great cameo) is poised to become another love interest. Too soon? I mean, Casey’s departure felt rushed to me, so I hope there’s not a rush to throw Mindy into another relationship so soon.
