EDM has gained in popularity over the years. Dance music will always have a home as long as clubs exist. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I sat down to listen to Esquille. I love my share of dance music. From the early days of Lady Gaga to the even earlier days of 90s dance music, it’s always been in my playlist. Anyone remember LaBouche? They were great.
Esquille is an EDM artist, producer, and collaborator from Sweden. He has enjoyed success worldwide through the 90s and 00s with his dance music. After a short break, he’s back to share his creativity with the world with his new EP “Rock This Club Down.”
I’ve never been a huge fan of electronica but I decided to give this one a try. The first track off of “Rock This Club Down” that I decided to listen to was “Don’t Stop The Rhythm.”
Of the five tracks that I listened to, this one is definitely not my favorite. It’s just way too repetitive for me. I felt like there was a lot of build up throughout the song without much payoff. I kept waiting for that to happen or the big climax in the song to pick up but it never did. The lack of lyrics and repetitiveness got a bit boring. Honestly, I felt like this song would be more at home on a video game soundtrack than a club. I felt like I was playing Mario Kart. This one wasn’t for me.
The next track I sampled was “Rock This Club Down.” This one was much better. There was more variety. While it did suffer a bit from the same repetitive curse, I felt that this one would perform better for a crowd.
My favorite from the EP would have to be “Moven Up.” The first thing I noticed about this track was the 90s feel about it. It definitely reminded me of the early dance craze from artists such as LaBouche and Real McCoy. If one of the songs were to gain popularity on the charts, I would pick this one.
The official music video for “HEYO” by Esquille is light years beyond the rest of these tracks. It’s so much better and really sounds like a song that could get you pumped. It sounds a bit like Jason Derulo. It’s amazing what a few lyrics will do for a song. Out of all of these, this one would be my favorite.
