Switched at Birth 2×21 – Departure of Summer – Recap

Toby and Nikki prepare for their wedding, Bay prepares for Ty to leave, and Daphne prepares to take responsibility for her actions.

Switched at Birth 2×21 “Departure Of Summer” Recap:

Nikki and Toby prepare for their impending wedding with a fancy, schmancy rehearsal dinner. Toby is less than thrilled when he learns that his parents are expecting him to get divorced in two years. John and Kathryn are even less thrilled that Toby had to get tested for STDs. But hey, at least he doesn’t have Chlamydia.

The parents get together to tell the kids how they feel and Toby and Nikki leave in a huff..then spend their night having sex. On the morning of the wedding, Toby texts his parents to cancel the wedding. Kathryn and John are so happy their son made the right decision. But did he? At the end of the episode, we see Toby and Nikki getting married at the courthouse. Must be nice to just waste your parent’s money like that and then get married anyway. Brats.

There are a lot of difficult decisions in this episode. Angelo does a lot of soul searching..or maybe he was just tired. But he realizes his baby belongs with the adoptive couple.and arranges for an open adoption.

Bay prepares for Ty to leave and she has no idea that his plans have changed. He is now being sent straight into the action. It’s so scary that his buddy tells him to get his will in order. Not wanting to hurt Bay, who is already making plans for the future, he lets her believe he cheated on her so that she hates him now. Bay runs to Emmett to ask why guys cheat on her. I feel so bad for her. There’s no excuse for cheating. I still hate you Emmett.

Regina moves back and is disturbed at how things with Daphne have escalated. Coto is convinced that John is behind it all and he wants 50 grand from John to keep quiet. Not wanting to force her parents to do that for her, Daphne decides to take responsibility for her actions.

She meets with Jace and he helps her publish an article, exposing Coto, and explaining why she did what she did. Jace risks deportation by doing this and is taken away by cops. Will we see him again next season? The episode ends as Daphne meets with a lawyer.

How will next season turn out? I doubt the parents are going to be needing wedding gift ideas or recital gift ideas for Nikki and Toby. They will not be happy that they eloped. If I had to guess, I’d say Daphne will be spending her time in an orange vest washing graffiti next season.
