ABC Family’s newest original docu-series The Vineyard has just begun and is already a big hit with fans. The series is set against the backdrop of beautiful Martha’s Vineyard, MA and follows a mix of locals during the Summer season. Among the cast of seven girls and four guys is Jackie Lyons. A sweetheart who wears her heart on her sleeve, Jackie is an aspiring writer moving back to the Vineyard to be with her mother and hopefully, find that special someone.
We had the pleasure of chatting with Jackie about her time at the Vineyard, the first season of the show, and her relationships with the cast.
Check out our interview with Jackie Lyons here:
Pop City Life: First of all, congrats on the success of The Vineyard!
Jackie Lyons: Thank you so much.
PCL: I was wondering if you could talk a little bit about how you got involved with the show.
Jackie: Sure. I had heard about casting for it through and saw it on Facebook. I had been spending every Summer here since I was like 6 weeks old. My entire life. It’s my favorite place in the world. I’ve always had the most amazing Summers here and always thought they should film something like this. When I saw they were doing a show, I just thought this was something I need to be apart of. My mom was sick at the time of the auditions so I was in the area and just auditioned. It was a long process but it was awesome and I got it.
PCL: The Vineyard is different than the other shows on the network right now. How would you describe it and what viewers can expect this season?
Jackie: It’s a reality show but it’s shot like a scripted show. I’m trying to think what other shows it’s like…
PCL: Would you compare it to anything?
Jackie: Yeah! I’m trying to think… it’s kind of like its own new breed. I took film classes and that’s what I adore about it. How the shots and scenery are beautifully done. It’s like The Hills meets 90210 meets Baywatch. Something like that. It’s its own thing which is really cool.
PCL: What can fans expect from you specifically on the first season?
Jackie: Let’s see… I am the girl who wears her heart on her sleeve. I am fun-loving and kind of quirky and I’m so close to my mom and she’s my best friend. I have a lot of interactions with her on the show. I’ve come back to the Vineyard actually to help her out because she’s been sick. So, I think maybe a lot of people can relate to me. I fall in love very easy. I think I’m relatable and you might see me cry a couple of times. So I’m pretty emotional but I think I’m just kind of the sweetheart, I guess. I want everyone to be happy.
PCL: Do you have a favorite memory from filming?
Jackie: Oh my Gosh. There’s so many. There’s some that I can’t say because the episodes haven’t aired yet. But oh my God the scene where me, Katie and Emily are in the store talking about what Emily looks for in a guy and she talks about looking for a rich JFK Jr. type? That was just so funny. It was kind of us first meeting Emily and we’re not like that. When I fall in love, I don’t care if he lives in a shack. To hear that was so fun and so funny! I loved the bonfire scene where Jon and Lou had gotten in a fight. The whole bonfire with everybody, eating Smores, that was all a lot of fun. And of course when I kissed Lou on the boat.
PCL: Can you talk a little bit about the relationship with Lou? Do you keep in touch with the rest of the cast?
Jackie: Yeah, we definitely keep in touch. We’ve actually known each other for a couple of years being on the Vineyard and so we’ve always been friends. When I saw him this Summer, I hadn’t seen him in a couple of Summers, so he had just grown and matured so much. He wasn’t Lou the little boy anymore. He was Lou the beautiful man. Oh, and a favorite memory. The first time I thought that maybe it could be more than friends. And he was so sweet with my dog on the beach and so attentive and helping me and it was just..we have a lot of things in common. We’re both super close to our moms and we both like animals and we’re both writers. He’s a really cool guy. I stay in touch with everybody. I got along well with everyone in the cast, I think.
PCL: You just mentioned you were both writers. Is that something you’re going to continue to pursue?
Jackie: Yeah, definitely. I’ve always wanted to write like young adult novels or screenplays and things like that. My mom and I are working on a children’s book right now. I’m writing it and she’s going to be doing the illustrations. It’s cool that I’m here and able to do that with her.
We’d like to thank Jackie for taking the time to chat with us. We really appreciate it.
