Last week, the liars, and us, were floored when Mona waltzed into the police department to confess to killing Detective Wilden. Did Mona really do it? And if not, who did? And why would she confess?
Pretty Little Liars 4×09 “Into The Deep” Recap:
Self Defense
Mona’s confession, while shocking, also presents some problems. Some of the things she says contradicts the evidence. Because they don’t have any proof, they aren’t able to hold Mona in jail. Mona’s actions get the attention of the judge, however, and bail is finally set for Ashley. Unfortunately, it’s set at 1 million dollars. Who has that kind of money?
Not Hanna. She only has to come up with 10% but still, 100 grand is a lot of money. I have to laugh at Caleb trying to sell his car. 1. He’s a fantastic boyfriend and 2. How good is that car?? In the end, an anonymous donor puts up the money to get Ashley out of jail. After having a nice dinner with her Silver Fox boyfriend Ted, she discovers from her ex-husband that Ted is the one who posted the money. Church pays well these days. Did he kill Wilden to protect Ashley? That has been my guess from the start but now I’m not so sure. “Don’t run. I have a lot riding on you, Ashley.” Hmmm.
Hello Seattle
In a move that is seemingly supposed to keep Ezra interesting and relevant (at least until he is revealed to be A), Maggie announces that she is accepting a job offer a little..far from Rosewood. How far exactly? Seattle. And she’s taking Malcolm with her. This gets Ezra’s attention and he consults with Veronica about a good family lawyer to get himself paternity rights. Meh. I don’t really care unless he’s smashing cars.
Does anyone, anyone at all care about Aria and Jake? I mean, really. I’m almost offended that this episode spends so much time focused on these two when there is SO MUCH ELSE going on that is way more interesting. Allow me to prove this.
Happy Birthday, Baby
It’s Emily’s birthday! Aria, who was obviously too consumed in her love life, gets Emily a picture of her and Paige. The frame isn’t even pretty. Anyways, Paige is full of surprises this episode. She plans a surprise party for Emily at her lake house, because apparently, all these girls have lake houses, and gets her a meeting with a fancy championship swimming trainer. Things don’t go as planned however when the trainer informs Emily her chances of getting a scholarship with her injury are slim. Emily faces the facts: She may not swim competitively anymore and her and Paige may likely be done once college starts.
Secrets and Lies
Jenna is back in town in her best maternity wear and she’s full of secrets. She’s scared of someone and she’s holding on to a secret about Alison. The girls want to know what this is so they make sure that Jenna and Shana turn up to the party. At some point in the night, Jenna manages to wander outside. She is then discovered by Emily to be face down in the lake. She’s not breathing and her head is bloody. She looks like someone Petrificus Totalus’d her right into the water. Nightmares. Who would do this?
Back at the hospital, Shana informs Spencer that Jenna is still alive. She’ll be sticking around. She’ll probably awaken once the actress has her baby. Until then, we should be concerned about who Jenna was afraid of. Annnnd. It’s CeCe. Sigh. Just. Why? No one cares about CeCe. She only came onto the show recently. I refuse to think of her as a threat. Even if someone in a red coat wandered under a porch, presumably to spy, at the end of the episode.
Also revealed at the end of the episode? Mona is packing her bags and is settling in to her old bed at Radley. How can she just walk in there? Where is the security? This is the worst hospital ever.
A is back in their black hoody and they’re musically talented. A plays the piano, a piece called “Any Time”, and puts the sheet music in a folder to send to Toby.
