Nothing is safe under the dome, especially your secrets. That’s what the residents of Chester’s Mill learn in the episode 3 of the CBS show.
Recap of episode 3 of Under The Dome: “Manhunt“:
Is Deputy Linda the hero of the show? So far, she appears to be. Reason why she was chosen to led-off-the-reservation Deputy Paul into jail after he – apparently by accident- killed another cop. “It was the Dome”, he can’t stop repeating before he starts coughing, faking an asthma attack. Unfortunately for Linda, she went inside to check on him and ended locked by him watching Paul escape with a gun.
Outside, Big Jim is trying to calm everyone by telling the residents what to do and notice his son’s absence. Once reunited, we witness a little father-son chat. Big Jim is concerned by the effect his son’s action would have on his image as he wants more and more power. He even leads him to take advantage of the possibilities of their new life. “This situation is an opportunity.” But Junior has something else to do as he prefers to play with Angie still locked in the fallout shelter.
Deciding that playing with him could save her life, Angie pretends she is interested in him so she can get him to do what she wants. One of her idea is to suggest him to return to a cement factory where the tunnels are deeply rooted under the city and so maybe under the dome. And more important, they lead outside Chester’s Mill which means they could be a way to escape.
Later on that day, it’s all about rumors at the town diner. People can’t stop talking about Julia and Barbie who are living together in Julia’s house – while her husband is absent. The two of them are starting to get to know each other, asking questions. Why Barbie was in the town when the Dome came down? Rennie arrives at the diner to tell everyone about Paul’s escape and organizes a manhunt. Barbie joined them.
While the men are on this manhunt, Joe’s house is invaded by teenagers who remark that now he’s finally popular. Things are getting quite interesting between him and Norrie, leading to a cute touch of hand. Unfortunately for them, it causes them to the ground in a seizure mumbling about “the pink stars are falling.”
Meanwhile, Big Jim and Barbie refused to stop the manhunt. It’s revelation time as Big Jim tells a few story of his past in particular his time in the football team including being teased about his size. But before they could go anywhere else, Paul shows off and points a gun at his head. But like every hero in this world, Linda just arrives in time and shoots Paul.
Junior is going to the old cement factory but he’s not alone, Julia is actually following him behind. Naturally we discover that the dome cuts also the tunnels so Chester’s Mills is really stuck. Junior soon discovers he isn’t alone and has a little heart-to-heart conversation. Silence, everyone this is the drama moment, let’s hear the violin. Junior admits to Julia he hates his nickname but also the fact he can’t please his father. I’m wondering if locking your girlfriend into the family fallout shelter would please Big Jim. We also learn that Julia was forced to leave town after she was humiliated at her job. As she drives him back home, they see Big Jim and Barbie talking. A conversation they will continue later.
Back at home, Julia still wonders why he was there just before the Dome accident. Barbie continues to claim coincidence but this sounds weird for Julia. Once he is out of the room, she finds a map of Chester’s Mill in his bedroom with a red X on it.
