It’s another week and another glorious episode of the MTV phenomenon that is Catfish: The TV Show. This week, we head to Texas to explore the story of Anthony and Marq. Anthony is an Iraq War veteran who has retired from injuries he sustained in an explosion. He seems like a great guy.
After sinking into a depression following his injuries, Anthony begins to talk to Marq. Right off the bat we learn that Marq is a really crappy Catfisher. He’s extremely suspicious and does a horrible job at hiding it. The relationship has gotten to the point where Anthony flew to meet Marq, only to get stood up at the last minute.
Recap:
But Catfish or not, Anthony is still in love with the person he’s talking to. Whether or not he looks like the pictures on his profile, he still hopes Marq cares for him somewhere.
Marq’s excuse for standing Anthony up is rather hilarious to me. He claims he was carjacked and run over by a car. He texts Anthony a picture of his injuries and Max The Observer doesn’t hesitate to point out that the hand in the picture is white. LOL.
Marq’s pictures are the biggest suspicious factor in this particular saga. Anthony has actually already found another profile with the same pictures. Nev and Max contact this guy, Joshua, who says it’s not the first time people have pretended to be him.
The Search
In a new twist, they manage to video chat with the guy to confirm the identity of the pictures before the end reveal. People being fans of the show has really added something this season.
Our fabulous duo attempt another groundbreaking search tactic this time around. A reverse phone search. They run the phone number and come up with a guy named Framel. They trace it back to a username and picture of a heavier guy.
This guy is “Marq.”
This is all discovered in the first 20 minutes of the episode. I think it’s the first time the Catfisher has been revealed and discovered so quickly. They reveal what they’ve found to Anthony and he’s devastated.
Nev feels for him and when he calls Framel, he aint playin’. He lays the smackdown on this guy and tells him he owes it to Anthony to confront him face to face.
The Meet Up
The gang head to meet Framel. The guy doesn’t have many excuses but claims to still love him. As additional slap in the face, he reveals he was in the restaurant the day they met up and just watched him from afar. Creepy.
The second round of meetups gets pretty heated and the two curse and scream at each other. This isn’t the fuzzy ending we’re used to. Framel tempts Anthony to put his hands on him. Nev and Max look frazzled.
Nev asks “Who are you?” and Framel whips out his conveniently placed photo album to tell us the story of his life that led him to gain weight and hate himself.
They used themselves as an outlet for their depression and the need to have someone to talk to. Anthony accepts his apology but I don’t really feel like they’re ever going to talk to each other again. But hey! Nev brings back the group picture at the end of the episode.
The Flashforward
Anthony puts his romantic life on hold and has ended his relationship with Marq. Like I suspected, the two have not spoken to each other since filming has ended but Framel is now in a relationship.
Bromantical Moments:
- Max to Nev: Everything is bigger in Texas.
- Nev and Max play footsie with Nev’s new shoes.
- Nev makes a grand gesture to prove they sleep in separate rooms. Yeah, okay buddy.
- Nev and Max have a playful gunfight in town.
