I guess it was only natural that after a few amazing episodes, Pretty Little Liars was destined to lose some steam. The girls are reeling after what happened on the lake. Fortunately for them, Lucas isn’t dead or anything. In fact, he’s basically a runaway at this point because he’s calling his parents to let him know he’s okay. Hannah is reluctant to tell Caleb the truth about why she doesn’t really care to find Lucas.
After finding out that A has been using her lakehouse, Spencer discovers a bunch of prepaid phones and a receipt for a store in Philadelphia. She takes the train to the city to see what she can find. All she sees is that the receipt is for a magazine stand. Didn’t A use letters from a magazine in one of the ransom notes or something? Spencer then realizes that the particular street she’s on is loaded with blind people. She sees that across the street is a rehab facility for the blind. I know all of this is supposed to be pointing to Jenna but I just don’t believe it. It seems more like they’re trying to remind us that Melissa lives 10 blocks away and easily could have gone to that magazine stand.
Spencer goes into the rehab to find out if Jenna went there and is greeted by a fellow patient who knew her. Hey look! It’s that guy who shot down Blaine from Glee at the Gap! We don’t get much out of him except that Jenna was super determined to do well and get out of there as fast as she could and she really helped him a lot. Kind of a let down in my opinion. Spencer steals the sign in books from when Jenna was there and sees that Alison never signed in to visit her the day before she went missing. Garrett did.
Emily is concerned when Maya seems to be hiding something from her. Every time she gets a call or text on her phone she looks worried. Emily believes that A might be harassing Maya. Wrong! Maya hooked up with someone while she was away and they won’t take no for an answer. And surprise! It was a guy. Who cares? In other relationship news, Noel breaks up with a heartbroken Mona who has no one to talk to but Spencer. Aww. I kind of want them to be friends now. Aria goes out on a friend date with Holden to a show she knows Ezra will be at. Unfortunately for her, Ezra can’t stand to be in the same place and Holden can tell immediately that Aria has feelings for him. Holden doesn’t mind because he thinks it’s a good opportunity to help each other. I kind of hope he’s gay.
Hannah is worried about being home alone in a rainstorm that seems to only affect her house and her house alone. While her mom is in the tub, Lucas breaks in and shows up in Hannah’s room. Awkward. Hannah freaks out and calls Caleb who runs in to see what’s wrong. I keep waiting for the dramatic declaration that Lucas is in love with Hannah and it was too hard to be around her so he wanted to kill himself. None of this happened. Lucas stole Caleb’s money and lost it betting on a basketball game. Really? That’s it?? What a letdown.
The end of the episode shows A loosening the screws on the scaffolding that, presumably, Toby will be standing on next week where he will fall off and cause the drama for the episode. A is really, really angry now.
