Productions by Recent Cutbacks are among my favorite things to see while in New York City. Made up of hardworking and talented individuals, Recent Cutbacks has changed the way I view theater. If you have decent taste and like things that are awesome and fun, I’m 100% confident you’ll love Recent Cutbacks’ latest offering – a hilarious Home Alone reenactment titled KEVIN!!!!!

The Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic is the hilarious, adult wizard parody we’ve all been waiting for. Brought to us by playwright Matt Cox, director Kristin McCarthy Parker, and producers Stephen Stout and Colin Waitt, The Puffs is playing at The Peoples Improv Theater in New York (a.k.a. The PIT) through August 4. What are you waiting for? The Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic is a loving, adult parody from writer Matt Cox, director Kristin McCarthy Parker, and producers Stephen Stout and Colin Waitt. Through August 4, The Puffs is playing at The Peoples Improv Theater in New York (a.k.a. The PIT), where writer Matt Cox takes us on a journey through those seven years in a certain magical world, but with a twist.
We spoke with Matt about what inspired him to reimagine the familiar, magical tale through the eyes of the badger-loving bunch, the fun parallels to his own life that he was able to explore while writing, and what he would do if he ever got to spend a day at that school of Magic and Magic.

A young boy raised by his uncle wanders through a strange world to learn all about magic. No, not him. Humble and with a heart as golden as his scarf, the boy’s name is Wayne, and this is a story about him – and the other guys. It’s a story about the House at that school of magic — the one that rarely enjoyed the spotlight but always enjoyed the best snacks. Really, who wouldn’t want to sleep next to the kitchens? I know I wasn’t about to walk up all those stairs.
Now playing at The Peoples Improv Theater in New York (a.k.a. The PIT), The Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic is a loving, adult parody from writer Matt Cox, director Kristin McCarthy Parker, and producers Stephen Stout and Colin Waitt. The play offers a look at all seven of those years from the point of view of the Puffs – and Jesus Merlin Christ, this show was terrific.
