Glee – Season 3 Episode 2 – I Am Unicorn – Recap
Shelby is back in town! She’s recruited by Sugar’s super rich dad to start a second show choir at Mckinley. Apparently with enough money you can convince yourself your daughter has some talent. Shelby’s return brings up some hurt emotions all around. Rachel doesn’t want to see the mother who rejected her..unless they can sing a powerful duet on stage somewhere. Together, they sing Somewhere and oof. Chills!
Shelby, now living in the area, has of course brought Beth with her. Shelby would love to have both Quinn and Puck in her life but not while Quinn is off being a bad lifetime movie stereotype. Her deeper voice is so embarrassing. Not half as embarrassing as how she’s acting though. Puck, is cleaning himself up in order to see Beth and even shows up to see her with a demonic clown drawing. So fatherly <3. In all seriousness, I am LOVING how all these other cast members are getting all of these lines. Puck’s scene with Shelby is great and touching. Quinn joins Sue in making a video about how the arts drove her to fall from grace. Yeah, it’s a big pile of b.s. When Quinn goes to Schue’s office to blame him for her life, Schue flips out, yells at her, and tells her to grow up. It’s kind of beautiful and making me actually like Schue for once. Shelby tells Quinn that if she wants to be in Beth’s life, she needs to change. Quinn shows up to Glee rehearsals blonde again and in one of her prairie dresses. It’s all an act. She tells Puck she wants to get full custody. Girl are you trippin?? That’s like, probably not even possible unless you’re on a very special episode of Law and Order! I hope she doesn’t start to corrupt Puck just as I’m starting to love his character. In other news, Vocal Adrenaline has fired Dustin (Nooooooo :() and now has no leader. At least Artie appreciated how handsome he was. Schue thinks this is the perfect time for the group to step it up and creates a mandatory Booty Camp. Lead by Mike, it will help some members of the group who aren’t as swift on their feet. Mike is getting all of these lines and I just don’t know how to react. I can’t handle it! Also, I’m pretty sure I saw one of Mike’s dance moves in Grease 2 during Reproduction. Just sayin’. I dedicate the scene of Finn mastering some dance moves to my lovely friend Stephanie. The school play is being cast and in addition to running for president (in which Brittany is running against him), Kurt finds himself auditioning against Blaine. And the big question of Blaine’s fate is revealed: Blaine is a junior. Blaine feels that because he’s younger than Kurt, any lead roles will go to him. Kurt is happy about this and auditions with I Am The Greatest Star. He thinks he does a great job until he overhears Beiste, Emma, and Artie (who have been hired to direct the play) saying that Kurt is just not believable as straight. Kurt thinks he needs to butch it up and auditions again with Rachel doing a romantic scene. Everyone, including Rachel, holds back laughter during it.
Blaine tries his hand at auditioning with Something’s Coming. Okay, I’m sorry. Is there a reason Blaine doesn’t own a pair of socks? His shoes probably stink. He does a great job and everyone loves it but is surprised when Blaine says he only wants a minor role. They ask him to reconsider the part of the lead and we are left with quite the cliffhanger. Dun dun DUN.
