The season 2 fall finale of Chasing Life aired Monday, but the show’s fate is still up in the air as far as renewal is concerned. Here are four reasons to renew Chasing Life:
1. The twists and turns
Few things are simple in the Chasing Life universe. April gets married… and her new husband dies just weeks after they tie the knot. Sara starts dating… and finds out the guy is married (this actually happened twice!). Brenna and Greer finally begin settling into their relationship after the love triangle with Kieran… and Greer has to move out of town. Nothing is as it seems in April Carver’s world, and viewers have learned to expect the unexpected.
2. The cast
The part of April Carver was actress Italia Ricci’s first lead role. She’s risen to the challenge, flanked by series regulars like Greek’s Scott Michael Foster – not to mention recurring guest stars like Tom Irwin, who’s currently a member of the Devious Maids cast as well. Some recognizable faces also made one-time guest appearances, including The L Word’s Leisha Hailey as Margo’s jealous ex Juliet, and drag queen Adore Delano (a.k.a. Danny Noriega from season 7 of American Idol) as the singer at Leo’s funeral.
3. The levity
Cancer may be a prominent theme of Chasing Life, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be some light-heartedness once in a while. Remember Beth and Brenna’s A+ Celebrity-playing skills? How about the pot cookies and Grandma’s quip about her favorite poet, Nicki Minaj? Sometimes, the laughs even extend to the titles of the episodes; my personal favorite is Chasing Life 1×10, Finding Chemo.
4. The cliffhangers
From the voicemail that ended season 1A to April’s discovery of Leo’s lifeless body in Chasing Life 2×7, the show’s 34 episodes have had some truly nail-biting cliffhangers. When episode 2×13 drew to a close, a lot of unanswered questions were left in its wake. Will Brenna fight for Finn or give the imminently returning Greer another shot? What do the police want to talk to George about? Has Beth decided to keep her baby? And, of course, the big one: Is April really serious about stopping treatment?
In our recent interview with Italia Ricci, the actress shared some of the reasons why she’s hoping for the “renew Chasing Life” campaign to be a success:
I would love for the show to be renewed for a full boat of reasons, but I think the way that season 2 ends explores an entirely different side of what it is to live with a disease, and another road to be taken with treatment and the decisions associated with that. … I don’t know that much about it and neither does April, so I want to know more. There are so many mini-cliffhangers in this finale and I want to know all the answers. The longer the show’s been on, the more people have connected to it. Our fans are so passionate, and we try to be so involved with them that everybody feels like they’re part of the Chasing Life universe. I don’t want that to end.
