Check out our exclusive interview with singer/songwriter Rachel Brown below:
I love your voice and I really loved your John Legend cover of “All of Me”. What inspired you to begin making music?
Thank you! Creating music was always a dream of mine, and once I finally took steps to make it a reality and starting songwriting, I fell in love. It’s that passion for music that keeps me creating.
Where do you draw your inspiration from as a songwriter? Does anyone inspire or influence you?
From everything and everyone. Whether it’s people in my life, things I experience, stories I hear, or just trying to see the world through my own eyes or someone else’s and and translating it into a song.
How would you describe your sound to someone thinking of listening who hasn’t heard you sing before?
Soulful pop with a world twist.
Your music has apparently drawn the interest of famous faces and you’ve appeared on television. How does it feel to garner that kind of attention and get that kind of reaction?
It’s shocking, because I still picture myself singing in my bedroom too shy to share it with anyone else. So the idea that it’s actually out there and people have a positive reaction to it still hasn’t set in, no matter how many years go by.
How has the fan support been? Do you enjoy interacting with fans on social media?
Absolutely! It’s great to be able to play a show and then immediately interact with people who were there, or people who are so far away that social media is the only means of communicating. The connection between artists and fans is awesome.
What music are you, yourself into?
Almost anything. My playlists span from soul to reggae to hip hop to country to pop to jazz and everything in between.
Are you currently working on an album? What’s going on with that? What can fans expect?
I just released a single, “Me & You” and am getting ready to release a new EP later this year. They can expect an evolution from the last release, but still me!
What do you love about performing live?
I have such a great time playing with my band – the energy and connection we have on stage is so much fun. And it’s so great to have that interaction with a live audience – to have the opportunity to provide entertainment for an evening. It’s great that I can share my music on records and mp3s, but nothing beats all being in a room together.
Can your fans look forward to an upcoming tour for you?
Yes, I’m currently on the road playing college campuses. And I frequently have shows in NYC. All tour dates are at rachelbrownmusic.com
